Love this video! Back in 2022 I walked into Kirk's Fly Shop in Estes Park, CO while my wife and kid went to a bookstore. I struck up a conversation with a guide and said "Man, I wish I could fly fish!" He said "why can't you?" I said "I live in Houston, TX. Not much trout down there." And then my eyes were opened!

similar experience for me. I walked into a bass pro shop in Florida and a veterans fly fishing group had a table set up. I had no idea that was a thing here. Did some research and got my first rod a few weeks later. Still havent caught one but id rather spend all day fly fishing and not catch something than throw a shrimp out on a spinning rod and wait for a bite.

@@richpaul6806peas are super easy to catch in soflo on the fly (dare i say easier than spinning/baitcasting) i just started about 2-3 weeks ago and i’ve caught over 40-50 peacocks… definitely got me hooked on fly fishing, haven’t touched any of my baitcasters since

I began fly fishing in 1966 with a split cane rod under my fathers tutelage.I had a spool of 5lb mono, a small candy tin with a few "borrowed flies" no waders or anything. More recently it was like I was dressing to go to battle (no offense) but, I bought into all the adverts for the "stuff you need". I try and be as sparse as I can anymore. Just enjoy yourself with minimal tackle and it does not have to be expensive. Thank you Alvin.

I’m a guide in Utah, one of the biggest misconceptions I hear is “ fly fishing is too expensive. “ It can be but it doesn’t have to be. It’s cheaper than golf, skiing, cycling, motorcycles, boats, etc. It’s just a matter of where you want to spend your money.

I believe I Can present flys down to 100 foot of water. I’ve caught fish on bottom in 60 ft of water and it was a lot of fun.

Fly cast is the best thing ever , I honestly like it just as much as catching fish. Sometimes I wouldn't mind not catching fish at all because I can just practice new techniques .

You have some really cool ideas. I've been watching tons of vids trying to learn this sport that I just picked up on Father's Day, lol. Thanks for sharing. Really appreciate your knowledge of different types of fly fishing: trout, bass and others. I live in Phoenix, so don't make it up to the trout streams that often, so I've been trying to catch other warm water species in man made lakes around town, for practice. Since I'm still in love with the idea of trout fishing, just haven't caught any. But I've discovered you definitely can catch bluegill and catfish with a fly line. Just need to know what flies work.

If you ever see me fly fishing down here in North Carolina on Lake Gaston Lake, you would probably say this guy is crazy. I use a spinning reel on a 12 ft crappie rod with a clear bobber for my weight, with the 12 ft rod i can separate the fly a long ways from the bobber and I'm telling you I catch just as many fish and sometimes more than my friend that uses a fly rod set up. What really got me hooked on fly fishing is I was bass fishing and I was throwing everything in my tackle box and wasn't getting any bites, so I said o well I guess I will leave and this guy said well have some fun and fish with one of my flies and I told him I don't know how to cast a fly rod he said I will let you use my daughters set up with a zebco 33 a water bobber and a top water popping fly, so I said ok he told me when the bobber is in the air give it a slight pull to separate the fly from the bobber so it wouldn't get tangled up so I did,the first 3 cast I caught 3 nice blue gill, that 4th cast it was like someone had dropped a big rock in the water I caught a 4 pound large mouth bass on that top water fly and now I'm HOOKED😂

You sound like me teaching fly fishing to the beginners at a guest ranch. Not boring and not just for trout. Although I have had some people who were just not ever going to get the timing down. 😊

Spin fishing, cast to productive water, fish a bit, reel reel reel reel, cast. Fly fishing, cast to productive water, fish a bit, back cast, cast to productive water. Flip, pause, flip, and you're fishing again. Fast. Or just do a roll and you're back where you want it.

I started fly fishing 2 years ago on a $60 combo rod, reel and line. Nobody should think it’s cost prohibitive! Except when you step into a fly shop and start grabbing dozens of good looking flies and then get to the register and see the total!

got stationed in SE Alabama, and walked into the outdoors shop in town.... looked around a little bit, finally a yokel "working" there asked if I might need help- I asked if they carried any fly tying materials or fly gear. He replied with a laugh and said "We ain't got no trout 'round here boy!" 🙄

@@alexalday1750 I was OIC of the Coast Guard LORAN station at Malone, Fl, right on the state line. Lived just outside of Dothan! When we were leaving there, a new outdoors shop opened, I don't recall the name of it, and they had a small selection of saltwater fly gear- although nobody seemed to know anything about it.
