You dont learn much when every thing is going perfectly.... the struggle of a tough day enables more learning.

Nice video. #5…I bought my first fly rod with money earned cutting grass and yard work. It was glass Leonard fly rod; most won’t recognize the name . I equate using a strike indicator for fly fishing to using a bobber and worm with an old Zebco 101. I’m writing this as I sit having a beer in Bariloche, Argentina; trying to figure out how to catch my first big trout on the Limay River. Keep your videos coming.

Good luck, I never saw a glass Leonard rod, a few bamboo ones.

I’m guilty of not practicing. And not practicing with the appropriate wt rod for the planed trip. Fished steelhead with an 8wt went to Utah with a 5wt and it took a little bit to get my casting straightened out.

I plan to go fishing for musky at Pomme De Terre State Park here in Missouri this summer. It's my first time fishing for musky so, like you suggested, I'm doing as much research as I can. It's already described as 1 in every 10,000 casts catches one, so I want to put conditions in my favor as much as I can with what I can control. Thanks for the video.

Ahhh...so right. i switched to fly fishing from conventional about 20 years ago (man has it been that long...am i that old now?), but no 5 is the worst for fly fishing. We are the most stuck up group of fishermen out there. I am so guilty of that myself.

News flash… you don’t have to pick one or the other .. you can do both!

I'm with you on strike indicators. Pfui. I watch guys plant themselves by a likely-looking slot and just flog it, occasionally changing flies but always staring at the bobber. They don't move. If they get tired of fishing, they could get a job in a physics lab as an Immovable Object. Besides, you can accomplish much the same thing by using a bass or panfish popper instead of a bobber. Tie a piece of fluoro tippet to the bend of the hook and put your nymph on that. Because fish often behave in ways we don't understand, sometimes they will ignore your cunningly placed nymph and attack the popper instead. Hilarity ensues, I guarantee it.
