Speaking as a trout fly-fisherman, that is very impressive, leisurely casting of a very long line in the first couple of minutes. :)

Thanks. Its just practice to be honest. After a while it becomes second nature. My casting isnt perfect by any means but at least I can get the fly across the water now. Thats with a floating line though. A sinking line is another kettle of fish all together and something I still have to master

always worth a try Iain, you can sometime provoke them nto taking, but another nice session with the river in good order

i caught my first ever salmon with the fly on the 27th september this year, a fresh silver hen fish around 7-8lbs, i will always remember the date !

I've used this year to learn and transition from trout fly to salmon and use skagits and tips etc. Next season I'll still be on the irvine but I'll be on the Ayr too. Also day tickets to the tweed the dee the North esk, I'll get me a salmon or three I assure you. I think I'll try ghe clyde too especially for the trout in may. Your videos help keep the enthusiasm yet realism too ian. Keep them coming

well thats the season over for me this year. Got 2 salmon and was out over 40 times. Not a bad season though

@@afishermansdiarywithiainup5377 you did well, hope you keep it going nxt Yr, I've still a couple of weeks as ghe irvine stops on 15th Nov. I'll be learning to cast mostly for next season. I'm accomplished as trout go but salmon that's a learning curve, I've got the kit and fly tying kit too so next year I'll be better

@@FraserCheyne to be honest for me salmon fly fishing is practicing your cast and if you get a fish so be it. I was out 68 times before I got a salmon on the fly then got 2 in 10 minutes. And then got a 12 lb hen the next time I was out. Just enjoy being on the water and anything else is a bonus. Good luck for next year

Thanks. You just have to keep on trying. Been out alot this year as always but not that many fish had.
