Yep that's correct.. they were introduced to New Zealand in 1877 from north america..and brown trout introduced later into New Zealand from Tasmania..

Thanks for posting this video, as much as I like fly fishing in winter, this really helps at nights to get me ready for the next day!

You make it look easy....We can froth the water all day around here and still come up empty handed a lot of days.
@MediocreLoops12 жыл бұрын
the big fly is a cicada pattern.. the other pattern used was a blowfly.. you gotta match the hatch though.. so if your river in new england only has small insects then use small flies.. new zealand has a hatch of cicadas over summer, they are big insects.. so you have to match them with big flies!!

Beautiful River and fish, Im only 12 and my life dream is to go fly fishing in NZ. Looks like so much fun! I love fishing, doesn't matter what kind, ice, fly, you name it!

thats a nice river you got their. me and my dad fly fish together and tie our own patters for our stream right down the road from us. im 16 and been fly fishing since i was bout 10ish. i still use my starter pole that i got for my 10th birthday, a scientific anglers pole i think its a 9wt. and for my reel i use a medalist 1492 1/2. best gift my dad gave me was teaching me how to fly-fish. We got some pretty good streams around here in New Jersey. wish i could fish out their. gets boring here.

Nice fish. The first couple reminded me of fishing British Columbia when I was a kid. Went up there three different times to some the same lakes over again. Amazing fishing. Looks like it is New Zealand as well. Thanks
@MediocreLoops12 жыл бұрын
pretty big... the cicada pattern was on a size 8 dry fly hook.. the blowfly pattern was on a size 12 hook and the cdc pattern used was on a size 14.. mainly used the cicada and blowfly between a 8 and 12 hook size.. at 8.58 you can see how big the cicada fly is..

I arrived into new zealand on Jan 1st 2011.. this clip would have been shot maybe on the 6th or 7th from memory.. the cicadas were in full swing from when I arrived.. it was deafening walking through some of the forest along side the rivers.

you need a new zealand fish and game licence for new zealand back country waters including the south island.. which costs about $NZ120 per year, if you fish the taupo region you need a separate taupo licence which costs roughly the same from memory.. which is a pretty good deal for the quality of fishing you will get!!
@Lenzman0012 жыл бұрын
Trout in many of the back country streams in NZ would not tollertate so many false casts, and often only one cast at the fish.. It's beautiful but summer fishing is often technically challenging. I guided for 14years in NZ
