Another quality video, almost mirrors my last visit to a small stillwater, for the first time i set up 2 rods, floater (bung and buzzers) and intermediate (small beadheaded Cat's Whisker). Nothing on the floater with the bung, even though there was fly life coming off the water and the occasional fish taking off the top, mmy success in the 5 hrs i was there came from the small lure, cast out, count to 10 and retrieve, 6 to the net, 3 follows and countless nips and pulls. Funny old game fishing, still it keeps us interested and the reason it's called fishing and not catching! Tight lines all!

"Changing for Success" excellent advice Lindsay! Couple of guys I fish with fish the same fly in the same place with the same method all the time because they have caught a couple of fish doing that. I call the "fishing in the past" rather than assessing the current situation and "fishing in the present". Even if the fly and presentation are correct at the moment I'm always watching the conditions closely as as change in wind, sunlight, forage (nymph to emerger to dry fly) .etc can require a change in tactics to remain successful. Cheers and tight lines Lindsay!

@@lindsayiflyfish yes, guilty as charged! LOL! My cure for compliancy is to make a point of cutting off my fly every 20 to 30 minutes or so. Before retying I stop to consider whether I should continue as is or change size/color or change patterns. I usually change patterns when I retie as I believe the fish get accustomed/conditioned to a pattern if they see it to much and something fresh or different suits their fancy better.

hi Lindsay, finally a video on small stillwater from the shore. I really like it ❤️ and it's very technical. It is very little that I practice it here in Italy and I try to learn from the videos. Is it possible to make other videos on techniques and dressings? ATB Max 👍 🇮🇹

Great Video. I fished my local still water on Monday and had them on a bung, stripping, buzzers…. I tend to give a fly 10 casts max and if there is no interest, I swap it. I also move often, I can probably appear a bit of a fidget. On Monday, I too must’ve lost double figures. I just couldn’t sink the hook I have no idea what camera you use but the picture quality and the footage is spot on. Crystal clear.

Getting stuck in a repetitive pattern same fly same presentation retrieve line. Is a lazy trap too many anglers fall into. Well it worked on that one. Only counts for that one. To change the presentation by simply adding five or ten seconds for the fly to settle slightly deeper, or variations to the retrieve. Depending on reaction or lack of it change colour size or pattern. Then line density. Then move and repeat. Thirty feet could make the difference. The more water you cover the more fish you are tempting. It is far better to cover many fish a couple of times. Than to try fifty plus different flys to the same handful of fish. The fish will always get bored first.

Lindsay, as the waters at Albury EState are all put & take, I assume that you obtained special permission to do catch & release while you were filming. Might be worth clarifying this for your subscribers, because if Cameron catches someone releasing fish he is likely to impose a lifetime ban, and “saying that they saw you release fish on your video” is likely to cut no ice.
@lindsayiflyfish
@lindsayiflyfish 2 жыл бұрын
Dave you are correct it is strictly catch and kill at Albury. I have special permission from The fishery manager to release fish whilst filming videos. I do normally mention this but after reviewing this video I have failed to do so. It would not go well for the sport despite the realities of catching, killing and eating fish if the anti fishing lobby were to latch onto videos showing this practice.
