This video is aimed at both experienced anglers as well as those just starting their fly fishing journey. Visiting large Stillwater can be very daunting in itself, then wondering what flies and tactics to use on such a huge expanse of water. This video will hope take some of that anxiety away. These five patterns have been proven winners over a number of years for early season Trout fishing.
The tactics are hopefully explained clearly for fly anglers of all abilities. Again these tactics have been proven over a number of years and have served me well. If you want to catch more trout give them a go. I am positive you won't be dissapointed.

Hi Lindsay, Great selection of flies and an interesting video ahead of the new season. Sad news indeed regarding the passing of Ifor Jones, he will be fondly remembered by so many Anglers. Regards, Wayne

We have to support our local fisheries. Large small and our rivers. With if possible at least one or a couple of trips outside your local area even Rutland is at long term risk. I was shocked not only by the loss of the waters you mentioned Dever Springs also Toft Newton in Lincolnshire used to be one of my favourite venues during summer and Easter shut down as I drove down to see family in the area. This year as I get back on the water I will get a couple of trips to the midlands waters possibly try the Bristol waters this or next year. If we don’t support now it will be too late later. Enjoy your well deserved trip Stateside pal

Brilliant advice just at the right time of year. I’ve already had a lot of success with the orange blob on the point but I rarely get a response to buzzers or diawl bachs on the droppers…..maybe it’s a little early here in South Wales. I’ve also had the larger fish taking the booby on the point fished static with a sink tip…..subtle takes but it pays to let the booby just sink and not move it at all for a minute or so. I’ve also dropped down to 4x which has made a difference…..who knew trout were so picky!!!!😂 Keep up the good work.

@lindsayiflyfish Comes across really clearly. The great thing about craming so much in, is the viewer can replay and replay until it sinks in. Good look with the Steelhead

Thanks Lindsay, that was brilliant advice and explanations of your flies and fishing techniques. The only thing that I would add is when straight lining buzzers is to have them all on quite light hooks and then they tend to flutter down more realistically on the drop rather than plummeting down to the depths straight away? Besides that I thank you for all your excellent advice. Have fun in crazy land, and don’t get shot!! Cheers

Lindsay thank you for the great video...keep them coming..💪💪.. also i am going tomorrow at Farmoore reservoir...any advice would be appreciated??😁 should i go with a sinking line with lure or booby? Or should i use buzzers with an intermediate line..?😮‍💨 thanks

Fastest sinker you have with a 10’ leader to a booby and back drift. You will catch a boat load of fish.

Buzzers be they Barkers, Muskins, Bachs, or PTNs are great year round. Blobs. Fabs. Boobies. Again staples with many uses and advantages on their day. Both the Fab and Boobies have the buoyancy bonus. Blob and fab give the fizz in the water due to the body material. But water disturbance and displacement be it on/ near the surface or at depth the booby is still the best option.

in reality you could probably get away with fishing these style of flies all season. Other than the absense of a selection of dry flies I would be good to go with whats been shown.

Lindsay, what's your go to stillwater fly rod weight and length? I'm looking at a 10 foot 7 weight. Thank you
@lindsayiflyfish
@lindsayiflyfish 10 ай бұрын
That is exactly what I use 10' for a #7 wgt I prefer a softer actioned rod nowadays easier on my arm.

I have 9ft 6wt here in BC Canada but I guess 9ft 6in or 10ft make big difference?
@lindsayiflyfish
@lindsayiflyfish 10 ай бұрын
@@Leavenotraceexpeditions From the bank its probably OK. In a boat though the 10' allows you to hang your flies further away from the boat. It also helps if you are casting over your partners head. The #7 Wgt scores when you want to play fish to the boat quickly and also if you need to cast across the wind.
