Hey Jim, I watched this video a week ago. Great tie. Wish I had that kind of results. I've seen you and other tiers do caddis pupae patterns, but I've never seen a tie that looks like the caddis pupae in our local creeks. They appear to be exactly what they are, a rolled up tree leaf from last summer. More grey and black than anything else. The pupa is usually not visible. Has anyone ever considered using a real tree leaf as a body material? If not, is there an acceptable substitute that looks a lot like it? George

You will only find the pupa during a caddis hatch. The pupa is the stage when the larva come to the surface to hatch into the adult. I have seen pictures of case building caddis that were placed in a tank with gold dust and small jewels that make a great looking bug, not to mention expensive. Try my playlist "nymphs" and look for a cased caddis, I'm sure I have a few.

@@TheFlymanJim Thank you. Found it. You're right. It looks very close to our local cased caddis.

Can this fly be tied with .020 to get it below the surface? Thanks for your video's very helpful

Hi Scott You can but I would use only 2 or 3 wraps. Also this is a dry fly
