Fly Tying: A Highly Productive Streamer that Pisses Fish Off the Mini Flash Monkey!

Everything you say is true. The fish hit this thing so aggressively and you can see the fly from 40 ft. Away. It has great action in the water too with a nice dive between strips. I'd like to fish this for large mouth bass, casting along a weed line and letting it sink a bit before stripping. I took it to a beautiful private lake in the San Juans called Santa Maria and a fish hit it so hard on the strip that it about yanked the rod out of my hand and stripped off 20 ft. of line ploughing along the surface. What a blast. I grew up in southeastern Virginia fishing for salt water fish and bass in fresh water. I like the action of casting to structure and retrieving. Nymphing and fishing with tiny dry flies for trout is not my thing. I am hooked on streamer fishing. I'd rather get one good eat on a streamer than catch dozens of fish on a nymph or even a dry fly. @@TroutTornado Ha, yesterday I caught a crawdad on it. I was retrieving and it all of a sudden got heavy. It was near shore and there was some rocks. All of a sudden it got heavy and I thought I had hooked a stick or a clump of weeds. I pulled it up and there was a huge crawdad hanging onto it and it wouldn't let go. That's never happened before. That crawdad must been on one of the rocks and it must have reached out and grabbed it.

I spent all of november and most of december tying nothing but streamers. I only started tying in August of 2022. After going back to very very small nymphs and dries, like size 18-22, watching someone tie a streamer makes my anxiety go through the roof! Its so chaotic! so much stuff just all over the place! On the tiny stuff i've been tying the last few months every little hair has to be exactly in the right place or your fly will just fall apart.

Wicked thing to tie on, that front hook. I’m not a fan of slippery tying thread like that, but it didn’t half soak up some punishment from that hook-point!

Amazing, right! I Love that hook and thread! Crazy sticky hook (if ya hook em, they don’t some off) and the thread is tough! I need it Otherwise I’d be popping my thread all the time.

Works great, however you can always use a synthetic as a substitute if you're concerned!

Just wandering, do you tie the "eye's" like that to get a sertain (hopefully spelled right) action from the fly or is it more of a rattle that you get from the eyes?? Ps: I have been doing this "brush thing" with the ep brushes ( I buy the 5" ones) that come 6 to á pack.

The eyes help to balance the fly and make sure it runs straight in the water. It also adds a little weight, similar to a 🎯 dart, making it easier to cast.

It keeps the fly from turning on its side with the massive movement of the fly rod and line. I rip it HARD!

Has anyone tried a pretty good material for flies instead of peacock and that is ostrich? I use it for micro lurkers and nymphs. What do you think?
