I tied several of these in brown and red. Not knowing what I was going to get into. Wow these flies work and great. I use the red ones in the evening and the brown ones in the morning. I dont even have to be close to a bishop or tree. After going out with a friend of mine he begged me to make him a few of each. These flies are this good, thanks. You are the man

Nice Beetle Mak! Foam beetles and foam ants always seem to work - but they can be hard to see on the water unless you add a wing or something like you did to see them. Just came up from the fly tying bench - I tied up a couple of small (#12) GFA Hoppers as the young grass hoppers are starting to show up along the river. A GFA/beetle or GFA/ant combination works well for me at this time of year. ATB! Hank

Hello Mak! The only thing I would like to add is to add a drop of super glue to the foam/thread at the initial tie in point. It will keep the back end of the fly from rotating/twisting around the shank on the back end. I noticed in the video that it moved a couple of time and you had to adjust it a couple of times. That’s the exact reason for the glue.
@Makflies5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Mark , I will try that next time with Super Glue :)

Makflies you are still one of the most technically perfect fly tyers I know. I recently posted to my roughly 4500 FB friends, who are almost all fly tyers and fly fishers and gave them you KZbin Channel name with a very high recommendation to watch your videos. You may see a little bump in subscriptions and likes because of it. All my best to you my friend!

Hi Mak. Great tying as usual. Beetlemania at my local reservoir at the moment. I'm trying women's fluorescent nail varnish for the sighter. Cheap and works great in different colors if there's any sunlight.

New Tyler here. Love the vedios. Great explanation of what to do. I was wondering what "open the thred" means and what is its benifit?
@Makflies5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Steve,, I am glad you like it,, Open the thread mean Split the thread from middle , the benefit is to catch Dubbing in split thread and give it a good spin with your Bobbin to secure the dubbing :)
@stevewelches19555 жыл бұрын
I understand that but in this vedio at .38 you say open the thread and are just wrapping thread around the hook shank. Please explain that process. Thank you for the first reply
@Makflies5 жыл бұрын
Ok,, It means unwind the thread, so it becomes flat & sits on the Hook properly :)

I'm confused . You didn't create a dubbing loop but just twisted everything together, then at about 5:38 you just tied it off as you would a loop - with the thread and bobbin being separate from the hurl and feather... ?
@Makflies3 жыл бұрын
I did D W, all twisted on Tread, you don't need Dubbing Loop, unless you are catching Dubbing :))))
