I just started to learn how to tie flys a couple weeks ago and I’m really excited to use this pattern. Thanks for the awesome video and making it easy to follow!

I really like the color combo on this one, especially the blended buck tail on the top. I just picked up a bunch of materials that came in today from hareline and I got several of the colors of aqua veil. I bet the mountain blueberries would look good with this fly, especially given the color choice of bucktail you used. Thanks for sharing.

That would look great! I love the color choices of Aqua Veil!

Such a great fly, thanks for the video! Do you ever add a short shank hook in the tail and if so does it matter where? Would love to see more lafkas flies too, especially the super cougar. That thing looks sweet!
@flyfishingtheozarks4 жыл бұрын
You 'could' put a smaller shorty hook in there.....but they never swim the same when you do. I like a single hook changer-style fly a lot better.

Hi Brian. Just watching the deceiver fly using fish spines. Two questions. First is the 7 inch fly a good size for smallmouth? Also. Do you like this better than a straight old game changer. Seems easier , more simple? Thanks for all the videos. Best Dave
@flyfishingtheozarks4 жыл бұрын
There are going to be differences in how this one swims over the regular Double Deceiver. It will definitely have more tail kick, especially in side currents, but it is also definitely more time-consuming to tie. I like to have some of both, just to spice it up.
@JimMurphyinSTL4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the new spin on the Deceiver. I haven't used the articulated spines yet and noticed you didn't tie in beads between the hook and connecting spine. Is it not needed because of the movement created by the spines? Thanks again, Brian!
@flyfishingtheozarks4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, if you are using the spines in a "Game Changer" style I don't suggest beads. Beads will make more of a space between the hook and the spine which will add at least a little bit of a gap. With spines we aren't looking to create a gap, we want them to be as close as possible.
@JimMurphyinSTL4 жыл бұрын
@@flyfishingtheozarks Thanks, Brian. I figured you left them out for some reason. Not wanting a gap makes total sense.

Great video as usual :) How big is this fly in total, and what WT rod you need to cast it? Do you put schlappen like this )( or like this () ?

This fly ends up around the 7" mark. I am an 8wt guy. Schlappen like () 👍

@@flyfishingtheozarks I guess I would be more worried about the connection wire. But maybe since it's just used to connect the shanks it shouldn't matter. *Shrug* but I do love the fly! I'm gonna give it a whirl! Thank you!!

So what's wrong with bagpipes or the synthesis thereof? It's readily apparent that you're not Scottish!
@rutabaga694 жыл бұрын
@@flyfishingtheozarks well, to be honest I like a lot of metal but that's not really a good fit for tying flies. Perhaps some up-tempo acoustic guitar jangling away would be a good option? Background music should be just that. I can't fault the flies/tying and general production. Your content is quality but the music does let it down occasionally. There's my 2 cents. Cheers, from England!
