Great looking fly!!! But since we are braking the rules, have you tried to use Chockletts GC chenille for heads ( large one ) and wind it really tight and then trim it???

I noticed a lot of your flies having chartreuse. Would you recommend it that color almost all the time?

I love Chartreuse, it works well blended with other colors and is a serious staple.

Great video. I agree with the sparkle. I use it to add an accent. In my home waters they see enough of bass pros tackle shop so I tend to use natural or muted colors and accent with a little flash. And, Best answer ever...."I happen to marry a solid chic."

How about doing a video on budget materials, free or almost free. All this flashy stuff from the fly shop is too expensive, and a lot of it catches more fishermen than fish. Showcase some budget materials and sources.

Another excellent tie… I have most of the materials or some close substitutes… is there a materials list used on this tie ? HELP …. Poop 💩 I even have these hooks … I usually use a Gamakatsu B10S up front and the vertical MFC for the articulating rear … I use the 17#-20# multi strand coated wire … tough I’ve been experimenting with a Rainbow and Brown trout patterns … got more pink/mint hues … The brown trout more yellow/light orange/dark/light browns … sometimes I use peacock herl in natural greed and I have a dark brown for the top backs … yeah a materials list would be nice to compare …

Lots of good information in the Q&A. I'm with you on the flash, a little is good but too much is too much. I'm camped at a place this summer that has a couple of small lakes, many would call the ponds, with at least of few bass in them. An then there is a medium sized creek that runs through the property that look like small mouth heaven to me. I haven't been able to fish the river/stream yet and I'm just starting to figure out the lake but it look like it might be a fun summer. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.

(I’m Chadwesty) Awesome Brian, thanks for elaborating on the flash question I asked! Looking forward to learning how to properly keel in one of your upcoming videos 😅

Thanks for the question! A keel video will be coming up soon.
@dougspreher45768 күн бұрын
As usual Brian, you crushed this. I agree that flash should be part of the fly and not the focal point. And there are times when plain flies with no flash slay fish. Please keep these videos coming brother.

Thanks! I will!

Great video, Brian. I was particularly interested in the design aspects of keeling flies. As, now, I am primarily a bass and saltwater flyfisher and flytyer; tying flies that ride properly is important.

To chase that sweet, sweet sales growth maybe. These guys put some dots on a feather and you idiots strap on those ortho shoes to charge in and buy it up at a 20% premium. NGL, it hurts to see our community always buying into ignorant gimmicks. So strange how tying nowadays magically parallels the cost of a new fly. Wonder why that is?
@flyfishingtheozarks7 күн бұрын
If you use anything besides homemade hooks, feathers from chickens you raise, thread you spin yourself, and dubbing from dryer lint.......you are one of us idiots.

I don’t have a creative bone in my body so I tend to be more of a rule follower than rule breaker when it comes to fly tying. I suppose doing ANYTHING outside the recipe could qualify. Guess I should give it a shot. 😂
