Wow. I see why Bob always talks highly of you. "Moment Arm" sure brings back some flashbacks of freshman Statics class.

Gunnar, this was a great tutorial. This is probably the best solution to get a crankbait style lip on a fly or flure. I'll be tying a few of these up over the winter for next years season. Really appreciate how in depth you go with your tying videos. Thanks man!

Gunner, Why do I need Bob's book when I have you and utube, which is such a modern why to get information and techniques? You have shown me and explain everything so well... Enjoy your vids so much. I have learned a lot as a new fly tier. Keep up the Great work!

Queen Bassy (my wife) and her lippy spin outfit can often outfish my flies because of those lip induced wiggles. I'll have to wait till next season to confirm that these Popolips level the field, but by the looks of those examples I have hope. Thanks Gunnar!

I respect you hard work, dedication and superb tying skills 👌👌 . Definitely a fly that will catch, not 100% sold about cast-ability. Is one of those patterns that needs a extra time, technique and skills to only be tied, to later when we r in the water, we must find the right casting conditions for the pattern to fully work and not the pattern that it will work regardless the casting conditions. Thank you again for the time and dedication. Best Mag

I agree with you I don't know if it's worth all the time and money you create that fly just to go fishing when maybe just a plain old articulated streamer will work just as well and cheaper and less headache yeah I think there be more headache and trying to mess with that type of fly tying
@camp49284 жыл бұрын
@@mikeking453 Plain articulated streamer won't move water in the same (undulating) fashion. This can be critical when fishing specific predators whose eyesight is particularly poor, fish that rely on lateral line and other sensory organs that detect vibration. Although this isn't usually as much a problem in the US.

Well another good experiment and a great looking fly. Thanks for posting this, I think Bob would be proud. I gave a guy a ration of you-know-what the other day for saying you talk too much. You do talk a lot, but you're always saying something worthwhile, so please keep it up. Keep the good stuff coming.

Thanks for sharing this one Gunnar. Coming from the conventional world and casting crankbaits and jerkbaits, I have always wanted to figure out how to get similar action in a fly. Yeah there are now lips and magic heads, but I like how custom one can make these. I can see a musky or big bass smashing these and one could even troll with them if done right.

I was wondering how soon you'd get around to making this video. Sooner than I thought! I can definitely see this catching big fish (with a saltwater hook) down here in Florida. Snook, tarpon (maybe) but definitely snook, reds. "They that go down to the sea in ships and do business in great waters, these see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep"

Thank you for the outstanding video! I get it that the lip is flexible. But I still can't get past the potential of the lip to sometimes block the hook point. That's where the Brinefly Pulse Discs or Wigglefin Discs might have an advantage.

Hello Gunnar, what about an articulated silicone lips beast changer? Shouldn‘t poplips in combination with the gamechanger principle do THE trick regarding ody dexterity? All the best and keep up the extraordinary work!!

Popovics is a mad genius. Anyone know how durable the silicone lip is? I'd be afraid it would get turn up pretty easy.

Not sue if you will read this but I would Ike to throw this fly cross current around bridge lights for tarpon ( have had great success bitch bomber long a). Will the poons destroy the lip or is it durable? Thanks for the video.

I love watching your videos. I think tying this type of fly for fishing is not something I would be interested in trying. I'd rather stick with an articulated streamer, bucktail streamers ,poppers just other type of flies for fishing. I think there would be less of a headache, less money no scissors to carry with me and more time fishing. I have learned a lot from watching some of your other videos thank you

Hi Man! I always follow you from Italy and I want to compliment you! I'd like to ask you for advice, I d like to try to build some "pop lip” but I'm not in possession of "frizz fibers” but I have in my drawers a little "Polar fibre... do you think I can use them as a substitute? Or do you know what materials I can use to make lips? Thank you... and sorry for my bad English

You could easily make a small template that’ll fit over the unformed lip and then trim to the template.

Any way to do a high and tight pop-lip? In theory I could see it but practically would the building of the lip cause the head to just turn into a bulk head?

Have you tried it with a kaled hook it should help? That should keep weight in correct place to keep the kicking out minimal. MAYBE!

make a simple paper pattern punch a hole to let it go over your hook eye you can make the pattern symmetrical by simply folding it in half
