With the wire connecting the stinger to the front do you need to worry about pull strength on the stinger hook. I want to make sure if I hook a good size fish on the rear hook it wont just pull loose.

If you use super solid thread pressure you have no worries. If it makes you feel better, add some super glue to the thread wraps.....but even without glue, the loop will break before the wire pulls loose.

Dr. Weis I have a quick question: What is the purpose behind hook eye style - up eye vs straight vs down eye.. what is really behind all this? Found an up eye dry fly hook the other day and said to myself "cant be, all dry fly hooks are down eye" then watching your videos ALL your streamer hooks are straight eye, then I noticed ALL my salmon hooks are up eye with that funky "return" what's the point? (no pun intended)

Hey Tim, Kelly actually uses a vertical eye on the rear portion of this fly. The basis is that when you articulate the fly the vertical eye will sit more "true", easier. You wouldn't want a down-turned eye for the rear hook on an articulated pattern because it would make the rear hook wonky.

@@timg2798 Oh, I follow now! The upturned eyes have always seemed funky to me, definitely not good for dry fly as it can make them ride funky in the water, but for swinging wet flies (salmon, steelhead, etc) it really doesn't matter because so many of those patterns (think Intruders here) are tied "in the round" with a stinger hook. When you get into straight vs down-turned eyes is when you can get into a heated discussion. Generally, I like my nymphs to have a down-turned eye because of the argument of the "fish holding ability"....which is basically if the hook point is pointing toward the hook eye, you won't lose as many fish, and you will hook more fish----but in all honesty, I can't say that helps with any level of certainty because of the THOUSANDS of other factors at play. Now, for the flat eye hooks on streamers, I think you will find that swim-flies (unweighted streamers) generally have a flat eye. This is because you will definitely get more "swim" out of an unweighted fly if you use a flat eye hook (especially if you tie a loop knot to the fly) because of how the angle of the hook will start to "drag" against the opposing line angle that you are stripping it against if you are using a down-turned eye. #scientist #notreally

Definitely! It is exactly the same stuff.....only difference, Polar Chenille doesn't come in the super crazy colors like Aqua Veil.

If you get the senyo laser hair and brush it out really good with a dog brush then trim it to size, or brush out some black acrylic yarn it's pretty dang close to what the laser dubbing is. Hope this tip helps
