Hi Out the 37,000 videos that are on KZbin giving tutorials on tying Willy Buggers your video has certainly given me the confidence to tie these up. I’m a beginner and sometimes, videos say “you must do that or do this” and you can get fixated on details that don’t matter. Your video describes the process as having a little more margin for error. Like I’m not frightened to have a go, and I think that’s important when teaching newbies. Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed Regards David

Well thank you David! I really appreciate these kind words. If you watch any more of my videos you'll quickly learn that I'm not a stickler for going by all the rules. Sure, I try to a lot of times, but something I always recommend is to just play around. Experiment, have fun with it. You might create a total mess (I do plenty of times), but you might come up with something unique, and fun to tie, that works just as well. :-)

Great video. I’m liking the Wooly Bugger as an early tying attempt, if not my first. I should have my tying desk area in place by this coming weekend. 🙏🏻🤞🏻. I’ve had to revamp my RC Plane area. We are now working from a combination Hanger/Fly Shop area. That’s ok, it will work nicely. I’m thankful to have the designated area to work from. We’re getting there. I had to come back and edit this post. After watching your Wooly Bugger video. The very next video that came up was another Wooly Bugger video from Fly Tyer Magazine. We were just talking about them. Wow. You think that the Lord doesn’t work in mysterious ways? This could have been a thousand different videos to have came up.

Love fishing wooly buggers... Here's a tip, instead of using weight and body material separately, we have the lesser known option of using pipe cleaners, they come in a wide assortment of colors and have enough wire to weight the fly... Simply tie on the tail. hackle and rib, then the pipe cleaner and wind forward, this adds the body and the weight at the same time, then finish your fly as normal... NOTE: Use old scissors or wire cutters when cutting off the excess, but other than that they work great... Try it, tell them Randy sent you... 😀

Great tip Randy; thanks! I've tried a few pipe cleaners before but the ones I have were way too thick. Maybe I need so shop around for some others. :-)

@@SavageFlies Craft stores have the thinner diameter ones, and if you have young kids, they have plenty of them on their school art projects they bring home... LOL

works fine until the metal core of the pipe cleaners starts to rust, and then stains the fly. better off to just use the regular chenille.

Hi from Rolla MO 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes. I take the hobby store pipe cleaners and untwist the wires and strip them out then fold A piece of wax paper in half so you have a good crisp edge in the middle of the paper place whatever color s and amounts of materials sometimes even put a little bit of feathers cut from a hackel., next tale 6# fluro mono and stretch it out straight and put it on a hanger frame put on it some super glue turn it over on the wax paper and materials hang to dry. Hey man, I'm a new tier. When you say "yarn" are you just meaning everyday crochet yarn that I can buy from my local wally mart?! I'm supporting my local fly shop but also looking where to get other materials "on the cheap" Thanks and be well!!

Yes, pretty much! And welcome to the sport my friend. As for picking up yarn at Walmart or any dollar store, note that a synthetic usually works well. It'll blend in a coffee grinder, and it often comes in a 3- or 4-strand that you can separate into smaller strands. Wool yarn is also a good choice, but it's usually more expensive than an acrylic. Just avoid cotton. It doesn't do as well for fly tying, and doesn't blend at all in a mixer.
