Some Competitions are 'ABC' .... Anything but Collies + a class for Collies. And that makes sense if other breeds are to get a fair chance at competing. Boxers, German Sheperds & Dobes certainly love Agility, my Belgian Shepherds thought it wonderful. Springer Spaniels are like lightning too. But the physique of Collies gives them an advantage ~ Combining BSD speed & Springer turning. And anyone who says 'that's stupid' is clueless. Would you run Collies against Greyhounds at one of their meetings? You could try .... but the Greyhounds would blow them into the weeds. Put Greyhounds in to Agility and most of the breeds just noted can out turn them so easily the Greyhounds would have no chance there. You want to encourage dogs and owners into sport you have to allow fairly even competition. So a personal verdict ......... Crufts are getting this badly wrong.
@tabithajohnson99073 жыл бұрын
I agree. I wish ABC (Anything But Collie) was more common. I've seen Dobies, Huskies, and even Bulldogs run in ABC classes. They're often more exciting because you get to see the odd breeds compete that never make it to these levels. ABP for smaller classes is going to need to be a thing soon. Papillions are taking over the smaller dog group by storm because they have the same advantage Border Collies do, but can compete in a different height class.

From what I have seen at this level of competition that it is mostly the handlers who give mixed signals or are already focused on the next obstacle before the dog addresses the current obstacle. I just enjoy the fact that the dogs have fun and don't understand that there is a title and a blue ribbon at stake.
@tilda21724 жыл бұрын
Sara we have to focus on the next obstacle cuz otherwise we will give the commando to late and the dog will take the wrong or not take the obstacle at all. In agility everything goes very fast as you can see and you have to be at least 1 obstacle ahead in your mind so you remember the course and can give the dog the right commando at the right time. I don’t mean anything bad I just wanted to inform you :)
@anitadeclerck60004 жыл бұрын

@markforeman914 жыл бұрын
This is the first time I have watched this kind of contest but I do agree. I have trained dogs in the past for behavior issues and if you give mixed signals they get confused. The dog will follow you and if you run past the obstacle before the dog is to it, the dog will always follow you.

@@peaches6453 If they don't go back to complete the obstacle it's considered a failed course run and they're disqualified. The best analogy I can think of would be missing a turn when driving somewhere, you're now lost and can't 'complete' the trip to where you're going. You need to make that turn to follow the gps directions and get to the end. It also helps the dog by reinforcing all parts need to be completed and to pay attention.

@@lisadooley3872 I've seen plenty of clean runs where the owner hits the ground and the dog hits the final jumps without them! :D If you can manage to stop your dog immediately if you're in the middle of a run and fall, then you can save them from getting an off-course (most dogs will start doing other obstacles while you're still getting back to your feet), then continue on. You can separate the decent handlers from the exceptional ones easily. The trainers most in shape running with the dogs, or the trainers best guiding the dogs with very clear commands positioned at the right angle, not giving the commands too early or late, all won or performed markedly better than the rest of the competition. 11:05 being in animal behavior, the dog didn’t actually refuse, like they said he got a bit excited and wasn’t paying attention to the owners command, not like he saw it and was like nope imma go under.

I don’t even know my left from my right most of the time. I have no idea how these pups are able to traverse this course 🤭 I’m so impressed

The dogs are really awesome but I also have respect for the owners/handlers because. Knowing me I'd trip and fall on my face doing this.

I want to see the giant breeds added to this competition. Granted they will probably smash through the obstacles but it'll still be fun to watch.

Giant breeds have a lot of hip problems, so they can't have too much exercise. They probably don't add them for the safety of the giant good boys. :)

They do have some large breeds that compete! It's usually the smaller breeds that win, but if you do proper exercises like stretches with your big dog they can be just as fast and precise without injuries.

It would be nice to have a large class maybe with obstacles that would be easier on their hips

Unfortunately giant good boys n girls usually have hip problems. :( I would love to see some of them compete more often though! I have a dane, lol, and I would love to see Danes in competitions like this. Granted, it probably wouldn't be in an agility contest because they could just...step over the jumps LMAO but in general thatd be awesome.

I really really admired these doggies. They are more than a human beings sometimes. Very smart and intelligent too! How I wished to have dogs like these. And the people who gave a true love and great courage to teach their dogs very admirable and deserving!

I. LOVE. YOU GUYS. I called the tears on Camara before they started. I told my husband, "Here they come!" Luke looked everywhere but at Sam. I know Rover is right where he needs to be to get better and find his forever home. He's a beautiful doggy. Please don't let people get you down. We all know what you are trying to accomplish. We see only a portion of your struggle on video and can't believe all that it takes. YOU ARE A GREAT TEAM. If you need funds for Rover, will you please reach out to us!? With much love and gratitude for what you do.😘
