It's rare to see genuine appreciation for X and Y in these kinds of videos. Most people shit on gen 6, but in my opinion it's a completely fine gen. The designs are a bit hit or miss, sure, and the games are very easy, but c'mon, Kalos as a region has so much soul. Beautiful routes and cities, navigating it is fun because you get to skate around and ride Skiddo, the mega evolution mechanic is fun. X and Y deserve more love.

I actually love most of the designs and REALLY tried coming into Kalos with an open mind after Flygon's high praise for it, but... despite all this _"life"_ you guys talk about, it just feels so _empty_ to me. I still recall doing a hardcore nuzzlock in Pokemon Crystal, Silver and Ruby (this was around the time Emerald got annonced). Hate stat lowering or raising moves that doesn't deal DMG, hate strats involving nature/passives/Eve's. But I'm not the one playing right now, so I think it's perfectly fine that Dr. Flygon goes with whatever works for him.
@silverbolt9439

Those people probably brute force their way through everything and probably play more casually\only play the story vanilla and think all battles are won that way. Without toxic, protect or stat boosting attacks you won't get very far in certain battles this applies to both nuzlocke and competitive, brute force aka only using attack moves will only get you so far.

The wipe to that random Solrock trainer is exactly why I could never do these types of run. I don't mind hard games, losing, or restarting, but having to do literally the exact same thing for hours just to return to exactly where I was earlier would just upset me. It doesn't make the run harder, it wastes my time, and that is far worse.
@CrimsenOverlordVideos
@CrimsenOverlordVideos 2 жыл бұрын
If you're doing them casually, and not for a video, I'd suggest treating a whiteout as the end of an attempt but not actually starting over. Instead you just reload your last save (or something similar that's fun for you). So you're tally of attempts goes up, but you don't have to spend hours getting to the same point. Then you keep the fun of a challenge run, but get the added fun of trying to keep the whiteout tally low. And half the tedium is lost. (Assuming you like the rest of the rules behind the challenge of course.) The goal of the entire Nuzlocke idea was spawned from a guy trying to have more fun with the game. So as long as you're doing things that make the game fun for you then you're doing it right.

Also, for future reference, when you Evolve Eevee into Sylveon, you only need to raise it's heart affection status to two hearts. (along with it having a fairy type move and leveling up) Which only gives you the benefit of increased experience gain, as if it was a traded pokemon gaining experience. It doesn't get additional benefits such as "avoiding the attack because it loved you" or something like that if you keep the heart status at the bare minimum. I personally would have allowed pokemon amie in this case, since the only "broken" mechanic that the Sylveon gets is just a little more experience gain compared to the rest of the party. It doesn't break out of paralysis or confusion or hang on with one hp because of love, it just grows a little faster then everyone else.
@Megatyrant

Indeed. If anything, when playing with level caps, that bit of extra exp might even turn into an additional disadvantage, seeing as getting a level up at the wrong time can really mess things up. So yeah, I would definitely allow it as well. :)

I appreciate your honesty, that ist the fine difference between someone who does his videos for his fans and not just for the money. Sure, the money that comes from sponsors and ads are a very nice addition to the hobby of making videos. But I feel like Flygon just wants to show his love with pokemon to the rest of us. I loved pokemon ever since I played the first game on an the original grey Gameboy. I learned reading more from this than from school :D because I asked my mom about the names of the attacks, to know how to win against the champion at an age of six years :D I also was shocked when I realised that there are hundreds of rom hacks. I just found about them because of you Flygon :D i finished seven rom hacks now and I had a lot of fun in every one. My favourite one was moon emerald. I loved the vanilla emerald. Ich played it thousands of hours :D and since my first run, guardevoir burned itself into my heart. And since then, it's my favourite pokemon :) This is far too long :D but I finally have some good times since the last two years, so I wanted you all to be part of it. It doesn't matter how hopeless everything looks, the earth is spinning the whole time, the sun goes up every morning, the time never stays. Everything is moving constantly and sometimes you need to break free from staying in the same mind for to long. Anyways :D thank you all for reading :) and especially for Flygon for your videos and creating a lovely community

Thanks for the comments about toxic/pp stall, etc strategies. As someone who's played competitive singles and doubles, there's nothing wrong with using whatever strategies you have available, even if it means spending 2/3 of the match waiting to press protect just to timer stall and like the video said, these challenge runs are about having fun. I find it more fun to not use setup moves since I find them pretty broken, but I'm not gonna gatekeep someone's run just cuz they swept every trainer with +6 dd if that's how they want to play the game

Idk about anyone else, but I’d rather nuzlockers go for the more safe and reasonable play. Even through watching, seeing someone go for a super unnecessarily risky play stresses me out as if I was playing. Strategies like sub, toxic, etc show how limiting one type only runs are and also show the planning the runner went through to preserve the limited mons available. I say leave the high risk plays to smogon and vgc battles where they become necessary to win.
@badashe1364

Same ngl, I really find it satisfying for a nuzlocker to do the safe option and win off it. Idk why people think stall is like illegal in runs or something

Same here, I also get pretty stressed when there’s some big risky play in nuzlockes. I much prefer the more safer option.
@ing4gi
@ing4gi 2 жыл бұрын
Aren’t nuzlockes supposed to stress you out? I find it entertaining when players are doing everything they can to keep their pokemon alive. But I do agree that monotype teams do get stale because of the repetitive strategies. The pokemon kinda lose identity in their own team because of it. Which is counterproductive ‘cause you’re supposed to get attached to your pokemon in a nuzlocke.
@saltmines5761
@saltmines5761 2 жыл бұрын
@@ing4gi I think the point I was trying to make was that monotype nuzlockes require much more meticulous planning (at least nuzlockes in vanilla games, emerald kaizo and company obviously have some intense planning). As a viewer, I watch these vids to see how the player will overcome the immense roadblocks set by monotype runs like solving a puzzle while scraping for whatever tools you can find. It makes sense nuzlockes will stress you out in some places, but my other point is that seeing someone take an unnecessarily risky play shakes me and kinda defeats the purpose of taking on this kind of challenge run. I guess this is more opinionated though as this is my preference when watching.

Tbh I feel like the biggest difficulty in XY are some of the random trainers, especially in the early game. For whatever reason, the Gym Leaders are a cakewalk (except probably Grant on a first playthrough) and then there’s this random double battle with two headbutting Furfrou’s that can easily wipe you if you’re not prepped for it, especially since you likely don’t have an evolved Pokémon when you encounter them.

OK I figured it out: --Boat: A boat is used as a "ferry" (noun form) --Equally: The word "equal" is used synonymously with things being fair, so "equal"y is "fair"y --Carnivaly: Another term for a carnival is a fair, so "carnival"y is "fair"y --Justy; The words fair and just are used synonymously, so "Just"y is 'fair"y --Cuisiney: Another term for cuisine is fare, so 'Cuisine'y is "fare'y --In playy: In baseball, a fair ball is one that is in play, so 'In Play"y is "Fair"y --Pixie: A pixie is a type of fairy --Tickety...I'm not sure. Maybe because you pay your "fare" to get a ticket? idk --Transport: To ferry someone (verb form) And that's the theme

Nice work. I didn’t purposefully do a hardcore nuzlocke for my fairy-only playthrough of Sword, but I didn’t lose a Pokémon and I only caught the fairy types as I went. No items or anything either. Hey Dr. Flygon! Congratulations on your PhD! Thats huge! I just wanted to offer some encouragement to spite the naysayers: You make amazing videos, I really really enjoy them. You, almost exclusively, are the reason I started my first ever nuzlocke, hardcore even because I'm a masochist! I've yet to watch your video on Nuzlocke tips but I feel I've learnt so much just from watching you play. I haven't played Pokémon since Hoenn was released, just being a casual consumer and Pokémon Go player. But you've created such fun videos that I wanted to give it a go,and I would not have got to Leon without having watched your videos. Learning how to pivot, set-up, use items strategically, stall, use status moves, the importance of natures, how to EV train, and more. It really opened my eyes to the fact that this game doesn't just have to be hyper offence and playstyles can be diverse and enjoyable. Regardless of whether ypu use weather teams, stall, balance, hyper-offence, trick room or whatever, someone will always not vibe with the team and claim its a bad playstyle. I'm really sorry that people are coming out in droves to diminish the effort that you put into this videos. I think that sucks a lot. However, I want to be one of the players coming out in droves telling you how much of an inspiration you are, how entertaining, funny, emotional (RIP Paxap), silly, serious, and educational you are. It's really amazing work and you deserve congratulations for it. I wiped on Leon's Intelon on my 5th attempt last week, but you taught me thats okay (plus I haven't played the DLC yet) so I've just carried on. I guess I just want to say thank you, because I never would have had so much fun playing a main series game if I had never found your channel. So thank you, Doctor Flygon. Always, always, always play the way that brings a smile to your face ✨

It's easy to come up with monotype suggestions for X/Y Nuzlockes, and while I would love to see those, I'm also curious what we can come up with that _isn't_ one of those. My first thought was a Starterlocke, where you could only use the Kalos and Kanto starters, but that might be too difficult. (Then again, you did nearly beat Diamond with two Fire types, so it's probably not impossible.) Another idea that shouldn't be nearly as hard is to only use mons that can Mega Evolve. Whether you actually _let_ them Mega Evolve or not is up to you, but that could still be an interesting way to restrict your options.
