Pokemon Brilliant Diamond but I can only use SHINIES (8 full odds, 1 bonus Masuda)

Hello Wayfarers, this is a Shiny only challenge in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond with some additional rules thrown in. I had a blast with this challenge and I actually think it might be the most unique shiny hunting experience I've ever had. You can soft reset for shinies, fish for them, revive fossils, hatch eggs, find NPC’s who’ll trigger double encounters, and run around a huge underground cave system to find them. All of these methods make this run such a unique experience where every hunt feels different from the last.
Also, this challenge was recorded on a regular copy of the game, so no alterations were made to the odds of finding a shiny Pokemon. Yep, this ones going to be brutal. With that in mind, please enjoy Pokemon Brilliant Diamond but I can only use SHINIES.
I used various pieces of info from Serebii.net for this video, and they're a fantastic source of help for anything and everything Pokemon related, so be sure to check out their site if you're doing a challenge like this!

damn only 99 resets for a shiny starter? that really is lucky don't think I've ever gotten a shiny starter in any Pokemon game I played (Black, Black 2, X, Alpha Saphire, Moon, Violet) despite probably starting over 100 runs in total lol

Yeah Cassian was a really special find 🍀😅 I’m the exact same dude, I’ve been playing since I was 6 years old and I’m now 29, and I’ve never found a shiny starter until now 🤯 I think it mainly comes down to just dedicating that time to specifically finding it - I played through all of PLA without finding a single shiny, and then found like 16 when I did my shiny challenge, still finishing with a reasonable playtime of 52 hours total 😅

What a great video! I personally have a love-hate relationship with this game. On one hand it's not only a remake of my favorite pokemon games, it's also the game that got me into shiny hunting (I got a shiny Chimchar on my nuzlocke run and a shiny and a shiny Gastly while ev training my Raichu). On the other hand it's Brilliant Diamond/Shinning Pearl

Thank you 😄 That’s fair and I appreciate that advice so thank you, funnily enough I actually made a conscious effort to try and avoid this very issue by writing the script in a certain way - so I’ll mostly refer to each Pokemon by their species name first, followed by their nickname until the battle ends or the shiny part is over 😅 However, maybe it’s best to just call them by their species name at all times. I guess I just like the idea of the audience learning the teams names throughout so it feels more personal, but didn’t really think of people watching it in the background!

After not playing pokemon since ruby I picked up brilliant diamond. I decided to shiny hunt my starter and got turtwig in just 24 resets. My next hunt was dialga at around 4200. My main goal for some reason was to get Arceus to shine and that took me 4500 resets. Still checking legendaries off my list slowly.

Awesome, glad you like it 😄 Ahh I’m sorry, the nicknames are all based on Star Wars characters for this video - I’ll list them below but now I’m curious too, what is A Court of Thorns and Roses? Infernape - Cassian Andor, petty criminal turned Rebel saboteur. Roserade - Hera Syndulla, a child of Ryloth who becomes one of the best Rebel (and or otherwise) pilots in the galaxy. Drapion - Fennec Shand, accomplished bounty hunter. Spiritomb - Sidious (Darth), THE Sith Lord. Ambipom - Mayday, clone commander based on an obscure world, tasked with the impossible and disregarded by the Empire. Graveler - Wrecker, a ‘defective’ clone from clone force 99 (The Bad Batch) who must navigate a changing galaxy once the Empire arises. I’m definitely allowed to hunt for shinies using non shinies 👍🏻 If I had to use a shiny to hunt for them, incrementally the challenge time would have soared, because the shiny sparkle animation from my own Pokémon would have added a lot of time on. I’ve seen plenty of other people do exactly the same thing and it’s because the notion of not doing that is insane - let’s think about that idea of having to use shinies to hunt for shinies - does that mean I need to find a shiny Combee just to use sweet scent? Do I need to find a shiny Golduck to have Damp and not let Graveler self destruct? It’s absurd. I specifically didn’t set rules for this challenge like I do in my others anyway, except from the very end near the elite 4 where you’ll see some of the battle rules I laid out.
