I love classic boats that are dark blue with a silver or gold cove stripe... it's good that you chose the darkest blue so that you now know that after blasting her you can go with a little lighter blue and hopefully add a silver, gold, or white cove stripe like the elegant classic sailboats have. Its my favorite look

We definitely think that the work is worth it. We really really want to conserve the ship and learn what it takes to sail a traditional ship. I'm not a big business man so the financial side of the project is the real pain in the behind. Barbera& Daniel, I'm following a very special project of not only a restoration of a historic ship but certainly the enormous perseverance, it may seem like too much work for that ship for many, but you show that everything can be repaired and will be resistant to weather the future. Respect and keep up the good work.

Loads of opinions out there. We do know that she was a wooden warship in WWII, she fished the North Sea and she was a magnificent tall ship... Is that historic enough? Also we are registered only for 12 guests and it's probably not possible to register her for more. For us that's good enough but for someone earning money sailing with 60 day guests on a similar sized vessel that's a problem.

For us the whole purpose of this adventure is to restore an historic ship and pass on sailing knowledge. How to sail a ship like ours. We want to sail with young people at the tall ship races where Flying Coney already took part twice. If the purpose would be to make money it's the wrong approach 😉

Really nice colour. A tip when painting ships. Always paint your top coat a few cemimeters below the water line and then set the water line. Main reason for this is to create an overlap (reduces the chance of air or water penetrating at a paint join - often the reason why waterlines rust first) and the anti foul should always be last. I can only express this from many years of painting steel vessels the wrong way and the right way. This tip of course will be the vital one when you do venture to the two-pack paint in the future. Great job guys, she is really looking fantastic.

Alright. It sure looks painted. I really like the dark blue color. I think you should paint the upper deck too before rust gets the best of the boat. It has been great weather, but it may have been a bit too hot. Next time we will see if it floats. :P Greetings, Jeff
@FlyingConey
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
Next time you see us sailing ⛵️ The ship was built with a traditionally laid wooden deck. It was repaired and sealed by simply putting sheet metal above it. Since this was done in the 90s it's relatively rust free and it's mostly red paint that may look like rust. However we do want to get rid of both and lay a new steel deck for various reasons. Thank you for your comment!
@jeffjefferson2676
@jeffjefferson2676 Жыл бұрын
@@FlyingConey I actually meant everything above the hull, a.k.a.; the "upper deck", or "main deck". Just like a story of a building. But nice to know the floor of the upper deck is in good condition. :) Okey, a new deck, that is cool! Are you going to put a new engine in? Its an event that gives some opportunities. So you better know what it is that you may want to do before closing it up again. Did you learn how to weld yet? :P It seems like there is a lot of welding coming up. Good luck! Greetings, Jeff
@FlyingConey
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
We both have rudimentary welding skills and since there's a lot of opportunity to improve them I'm sure we'll get the hang of it. But below the waterline and the difficult to weld hull we leave the work to the experts. The DAF 1160 is an excellent and very economic engine and it has only 5000 hours on the clock. We burn about 12 liters an hour. I guess there's no need for an engine swap. All the best.
@jeffjefferson2676
@jeffjefferson2676 Жыл бұрын
@@FlyingConey 12 liters per hour sounds like a lot, but I'm no marine engine expert. Is that a lot of just average? I don't know what is right for the size ship you have got. I do know that for it to run the cheapest/best/energy efficient, it has to be in good condition. You probably know where to find good diesel engine books. :P If you feed it love and all the maintenance, it will love you back, and you will have a great time with it. Welding is part of running a bigger ship. Someone I know from Urk once told me the only ship he would buy is steel one, because you can weld it in every harbor on the planet. The rest he though was dangerous and unwise to get. Greetings, Jeff
