The Swan would then be a perfect (not looking only at the sky) quad fpv and then transition to airplane mode. I believe You have the tech savvy sway and connections to get this done. I will gladly pay for this service or help to build up a Swan HD DJI FPV with one axis gimble. Head tracking has kinda been lost in the fpv shuffle; not sure why. Please advise Thanx Gizmo

Curious about zig-zag upwind. That’s like tacking with a sailboat, but the key to sailboats is that they have a keel or centerboard in stationary (relatively stationary) water. Can’t quite figure how an airplane can “tack” without one. Can you explain?
@SW-Video3 жыл бұрын
I can. It only works up to a certain wind speed. Tacking diagonally allows the aircraft to hit less headwind. This can only work for as long as the motors/props are pulling faster than the wind it's fighting. Once it becomes too much the aircraft must land. At that point the skilled pilot can only try to land where it will hopefully do the least amount of damage to it and anyone else or anything else.
@CAPTAINDRONE7983 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill. If you fly a drone in strong winds and point the nose into the wind, then the drone can only move forward if it’s forward speed is faster than the blowing wind. Most times wind is not at a constant speed. The Swan has a pedo tube that detects forward motion in relation to prop speed. To avoid stalling I angle the Swan in a zigzag pattern to ensure forward motion is constant. If I rammed it straight into the strength of the wind and there is no forward motion, it stalls and goes into vertical mode.
@billtravers32433 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I’m thinking the physicists are going to roast you both. But meanwhile there’s something I didn’t consider - in between the Captain’s lines I’m reading that it might be a GPS thing. The pitot tube just measures airspeed. The GPS speed might force the plane into landing mode. Otherwise, think of a canoe paddling upstream. Zig-zag won’t help. (Unless you’re exploiting eddiies.). Hope this analogy might work. It has a certain Canadian appeal : )
@SW-Video3 жыл бұрын
@@billtravers3243 Let them roast. My skin is plenty thick. ;)
@billtravers32433 жыл бұрын
Well, no need for roasting. I see that it's a matter of clarifying wind speed vs land speed. Pitot tube speed vs GPS speed. The trick is that headwind doesn't cause an airplane to stall, but it can cause this Swan drone to lose enough land/GPS speed that it thinks the pilot is ready to land and it automatically goes into vertical mode. That looks like a stall, but is not strictly like a stall due to loss of airspeed. It's just an automated move programmed by the designers, and triggered by approaching a zero land speed. This is very interesting. Something a Swan pilot needs to keep in mind on windy days, clearly. (I would add that zig-zagging to keep up the ground speed is clearly a great strategy with the Swan, but technically it has nothing to do with the physics of tacking upwind in a sailboat. That analogy is very "rough", especially for anyone interested in the physics of sailing.)

Wow, Steve! That was *amazing* ! I'd love to get one of those Swan things -- could be tons of fun to fly. Also, I really like that SUV or truck, whatever it is, that Mojave you're driving. If it's the Jeep Gladiator Mojave, they don't sell them in the UK. Edited to add: Holy Cow! I just checked the range capability of that Swan, and... 40 km!!! What the heck?? That's actually not a bad price (saw $1099 on sale at the moment) for the base version of this aircraft. Out of my budget at this time, but maybe it's something I should be thinking about saving for.

@ayCarumbaQueLio3 жыл бұрын
Actually, they're very easy to fly and they land autonomously. They just don't work well in very much wind. They can handle around an 8 mph wind if it's steady and not gusty. If it's gusty, forget it, you're going to have a bad day and maybe lose a $1,100 - $2,100 aircraft. The higher price is for the version with the Caddix Air Unit and DJI Goggles.

@FahadKhan_30073 жыл бұрын
Swan K1 Pro is a superb VTOL but we should not fly such VTOL drone which has giant wings that makes it go in the direction of wind on extreme windy days like this one! That's what I learnt from the video. The Action 2's footage is so neat and clear, btw. DJI drones like Mavics, Minis, Phantoms, Inspires, Agrases and Matrices etc are different as their propellers are stronger (obviously, as they are made by DJI- One of the best UAV brand) and they will be stable because they don't have such plane-like fuselage as K1 pro has... That Swan's fuselage worked like a sail of a boat and went into the direction of wind regardless of the strength of the propellers... On the other hand those bicopters, tricopters, quadcopters, pentacopters, hexacopters, septacopters, octocopters, Nonacopters, decacopters (What am I doing. lol ) have a kind of fuselage that is parallel to the direction of wind, blowing, and it makes them stable. Another point is their (drones like quadcopters,hexacoters etc) super powerful motors that ensures the level 5 wind resistance. Overall, Swan K1 pro is a beautiful drone that is loaded with technology that *should not* be taken off in extreme weather conditions!

@CAPTAINDRONE79811 ай бұрын
It depends on the country you live in. In most countries it works like this... The rules will apply to WEIGHT when it comes to an unmanned remotely controlled vehicle. So in my country of Canada, the rules state that anything flown remotely that is 250 grams weight or higher, has restrictions to the flight. Such as the pilot needs to be certified to fly (i.e., an on-line exam was written and passed), and the pilot must adhere to common sense rules... don't fly near airports, over groups of people, over moving cars, near building windows, etc.

It has a Pedo tube to detect flight speed and avoid a stall. Once the sensor detects a stall (slow forward movement) it switches into vertical mode to avoid a crash. It is a device that can’t fly or glide without motors, so like a Shark, it requires forward movement to remain airborne.

You must be mistaken about the props as the props are identical to the drone screw on type. The laws of physics tighten the props as they spin.
