That's my dream plane. Going to take me about 10 years but it will happen. Amazing performance and safety.

An interesting thing about the TKS, it is anti-ice, not de-ice system. Meaning you have to turn it on before ice develops on the wing. A de-ice boot will break off ice when it is activated.
@MarekMarciniak2 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking yes, but in Max Mode the amount of glicol should be able to remove already accumulated ice assuming it's not a lot of it.
@leo33644 жыл бұрын
You did not use deicing equipment, or it was not able to eliminate this ice?
@MarekMarciniak4 жыл бұрын
I did use it. But you have 3 modes in a DA62 - normal, high and max. Normal is to prevent accumulation of ice, but if thats not enough you will use high or max to get rid of the already accumulated ice. That ice you see on the video was picked during operation in NORM mode. Then I used high and te ice magically disappeared 😁 Thanks for watching.

I'm curious why are your pitots off if you're in clear icing conditions? Edit: I think you turned then on, why were they off in -24°C Temps? Are they only required in visible moisture at that temp.? Edit Edit: What a gorgeous plane ever fly to KRYY or KVPC? 😁

Is the 62 certified for known icing out of the factory or is that an add-on?

Crazy, why fly through this ? where are you going your just asking for trouble
@MarekMarciniak3 жыл бұрын
DA62 is designed to handle ice. It has a efficient ice protection system, so it's ok to fly through it with system ON. Of course you don't want to be in ice for hours but during climb to clear skies or during the decent and approach phase of the flight it is usually not a big problem for a plane like DA62 to fly through it. Of course you want to check the weather forecast, pilot reports etc to know where you should expect Ice and then plan your trip accordingly. If you don't have any ice protection in your plane - never fly through ice.

Flying in icing conditions with deice fluid "level low" - not good!
@MarekMarciniak4 жыл бұрын
You get the low level message when you are down to 9 liters TKS fluid. Thats still over 55 minutes worth of fluid left at NORM mode or 27 minutes at HIGH mode. That day I was flying with oxygen well above the icing levels that were extanding from 1500 to 5000 feet in the area I was flying in. Everything was carefully calculated and I knew way before departure I will be in light Icing conditions for around 15 minutes total ( 2 take offs and 1 landing ). At that time I had 17 liters of fluid on board . Thats 1 hour 45 minutes worth of TKS ( at norm mode which I was primarily using). I had to use Max mode 2 times when Norm was not enough. Upon arrival to my destination airport I still had 6 liters left just like I planned. Plenty. Thanks for your reply.
