There is nothing that I love on this earth more than birds. This, along with the dystopia in which we now live, make me question why I want to continue to bother to live. I swear that I am doing what I can to be eco conscious (despite my employer’s rules), and I contribute to the American Bird Conservation, Audubon, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Nevertheless, I do not feel optimistic, and just hope that I am wrong.

What I don't get is that parrots have been kept as pets for thousands of years but domestic breeding only started in notable numbers recently, with wild catching only being made illegal in most countries within the past two decades. Why is there such a giant disconnect between when they started to be pets and when domestic breeding took off? That doesn't make any sense at all. Other domestic birds have been bred for as long as we've kept them so why not parrots? Also, I used to work at the Oregon Zoo and I swear we didn't have any of these neat birds then. We even had a big poster of an African Grey to advertise our Birds of Africa exhibit but never had a grey in it.
