Trucking for me has been a career choice. I really never knew I wanted it to be my thing until I got in. I wanted to build custom homes as a career goal but i graduated HS in '09 and the bottom was already out of the market at that point. So i turned wrenches and eventually burned out and landed in a driver's seat and haven't looked back since. Of course there are bad days. I did local hand load delivery, van work, regional otr, tanker, and gravel. Gravel is my thing for sure. And I stretch my legs in the winter doing regional. It pays the bills and scratched the itch of wondering what longer haul stuff was like. My favorite states are the southern Appalachian states. Kentucky, Tennessee, far eastern ohio, and the rocky areas of Missouri. Driving through drilled rock is just fascinating and the views along those roads are nothing short of incredible. I doubt I'll get to see the rockies for a number of years due to needing to be home every week, but I do look forward to a potential future with me heading westbound. My end goal is to move up in this outfit and eventually make it on the truck show list and be able to travel around to shows and represent the company and show off a lesser viewed sector of the industry, Michigan gravel trains. Maybe some day. I still get to drive really dressed up trucks regardless and I love the job I do.

Shelby, a great video of your flying nightmare. It's bad enough flying on a normal day, now with this virus thing makes it that much worst, and now your flying with a Cat4 hurricane ready to hit anytime. You did well Shelby, at least you had B Cam with you for moral support. B Cam did an excellent job with the night video from the plane. Looking forward to part 2 Shelby. Stay safe Shelby !!!!!!!

I can’t believe your bags left without you! That usually never happens. If the passenger is not on the plane, the bag comes off.

Yes, this is a safety protocol. It raises suspicion. Bad actors could check in, send their bags in the air, and be out of the country by the time the plane takes off.

Good that the airline was understanding of your mistake and that they were still able to get you where you were going. About 24 years ago I was supposed to take a trip from Chicago to Florida. I had just replaced the engine in my truck, and the fan came loose on the Stevenson on the way to midway, so I had to pull to the side of the road and fix that. When I did I must have hit something, and it made a little hole in the sidewall of the tire, so I had to stop and get a can of fix a flat since I didn't have a spare with me... which didn't work, somehow I got to the airport with only a little air left in the tire and parked in the wrong garage that was for people picking up and dropping off, not for overnight parking.. but whatever I figured I'd deal with that later. I got out of the truck and grabbed my gear, luckily I wasn't checking any luggage and had everything I needed in a carry in bag. I got to the gate in time to watch the plane back away. I talked to an agent from southwest airlines and they put me on a flight in 3 hours that stopped in Nashville, and then went on to Orlando, but when I got to Nashville I was considered standby and sure enough... got pulled from the plane... except... I left my ticket home in the seat back pocket never to be seen again. So, southwest had me sit in Nashville for I think 2 hours, I had told them that I needed either to get to Florida or back to Chicago and hadn't planned to move to Nashville, and also my ticket home was in the seat pocket and could they tell a flight attendant to grab it for me? They put me on a plane that was already boarding to New Orleans, then after 5 hours I'd go on to Orlando, so I flew to New Orleans and sat in the airport for 5 hours, where I went to an empty gate and took a good nap on the floor. Then flew on to Orlando 7 hours later than I was supposed to arrive. Luckily... the girl I had gone to see was sitting there when I got there, and was very cool about it. I talked to someone about my ticket home before we left the airport and they told me the ticket was like cash, so anyone can use it, and apparently someone had so I was stuck in Orlando until I bought another ticket, so... the girl I was with bought the ticket and we went on.. when I got home I had a truck that was sitting on a flat tire in an airport parking garage that wasn't for overnight parking for a week and they called abandoned. When I showed up the guard put air in my tire, then they charged me around $250 to pull my truck out, which I didn't have at the time, so I paid the $40 I did have and they told me to mail them the rest, which I never did. Then I had to go to a tire shop on the south side of Chicago close to the airport and bought a used tire for $30 that ended up having a slipped belt, but it got me 45 minutes home. Once I got home I called and was given a voucher for the price of the ticket home, and had to go buy a new tire. Southwest's customer service was amazing. Ever since then I've always flown southwest and never any other airline, and I've never had a vehicle without a spare tire and tools to change it with.

As an airline employee, I'm so glad that you made the decision to fly, I do a lot of research on cleanliness and safety of different airlines. I realize that you don't have a lot of options to fly to SHV out of SLC. I believe that choosing Delta was a good choice to keep you safe from the Covid since a lot of airlines don't block the middle seats. I hope you had a safe and productive trip. Love your videos!!

A few things, as a (former, pre-CV19) traveller I highly recommend. 1) Get your phone figured out so it will change time zones appropriately. ( I understand if you don't want to, #2 will save you) 2) Use a flight/travel tracking application, it would have told you about your pending gate, etc. (I hope.) I too have nearly been caught by time changes where I'm going "Sure, I have 2.5 hours before my flight." Nope, it was 30 minutes, time change. The travel app saved me. At a minimum, load the app for the airline you're flying. #3) When you get the confirmation from your airline, add them to your calendar, most have calendar app adds. Thanks for keeping us up to date on your amazing job, and career!
