As a pilots wife these perks are by far my favorite. The standby game is definitely nerve wracking but so far in my experience I've had really good luck with it just being patient and going with the flow of how things work out. Last time we got to do something similar to this was last summer to Nashville. Can't wait to see where else you guys end up!

Garrett! I so enjoy your content! Your life reminds me so much of my 21 year old son. He’s a Pilot for Envoy. He just finished and received his 100 hrs. Certificate! You’re so right in just how expensive it is and the amount of studying it takes to become a walking dictionary with aviation knowledge. That’s what my son Chandler has and still is called, A walking dictionary! I would absolutely love for you and Chandler to meet! We’re from NC also! 🙏🏻✈️

Hey congratulations to your son! Im in high school right now and want to be a pilot. Based on your sons experiences, would you recommend that I attend a university for both my flight training and degree, such as embry riddle? Im concerned because I know that airlines are starting to up their hiring preferences to above 1500 flight hours for the ATPL and embry riddle will only provide you with a Restricted ATP and 1200 hours. Thanks!

@@sohumpatel3364in my opinion embry riddle isn’t worth it. You can go to a small part 61 flight school & knock out your licenses for wayyy less cost and much faster. From what I hear, you don’t touch a plane for the first year you’re there.

@@sohumpatel3364 Hi there! To be completely honest here, I wish my son was here to answer your question. I do know that he is so very pleased with each and every step he took to become a commercial airline pilot. He got his private pilot license after approximately 3 months. Then he soon afterwards got a job as a flight instructor. That is a win win situation because he was able to work and make money while getting his flight hours. He did that for 1 year. Then he flew for a private business. Flying a Pilatus PC-12. (What a great plane) for 1 year. Then he moved on to fly another Pilatus PC-12 for a medical supply co. for 1 year. (Making great money) So now he had approximately 2,000 hrs. So he applied to Envoy and was interviewed and hired. He loves his job! So that’s the steps that he took and never had any regrets. He didn’t go to one of the schools. He worked and made money while getting his hours. Truly a win, win situation. I wish you all the best on your journey to becoming an airline pilot.

@@spotzidog5110 ah you will be one day dude! erm yeah it's not too bad but it's not easily booked and the big chunks you literally apply for the year before lol... my airline gives out four periods of block leave (13 days off, because we work a 5/4 pattern, so 20 annual leave days here) then 8 other days you can book off throughout the year. not allowed to book anything off over christmas/new year which I hate. but my airline tries to justify everything with "you have an industry leading 5/4 roster!" imo i'd rather a bidding seniority based system, a must at my next job... 😇
