If you get the chance fly out to Franklinton Louisiana one day. It's not a mega airport by any means but it is a small rural town with a lot of history.

Excellent video Noel! I know I'm way late with this, but did your instructor ever tell you why he wanted you to say "awaiting IFR release" at a towered airport? Tower knows that you're on an IFR flight plan, the ground controller handed them a flight strip showing that you were IFR, so that's a bit redundant to say "awaiting IFR release" as tower knows that. The only time you need to explicitly call for IFR release is if you're at an un-towered airport and are calling the overlying ATC or FSS (depending on location). I know most controllers would rather you just call them an advise "Ready for departure" instead. Many towers also have a "rolling release" authorization, so they're allowed to depart IFR flights without getting an explicit IFR release from the TRACON/ARTCC for their departures as long as certain criteria are met (like they're not launching 2 aircraft on the same departure route back-to-back without a certain in-trail separation guaranteed). I've done all my Instrument training except for the final checkride, so I'm hoping that in the not too distant future to be able to do my remedial flying to get hours and updates so I can try and finally get my Instrument Ticket after almost 20 years. :)

Such a faff in the UK compared to the USA , great to watch your progress Noel .
@SouthPaw1805
@SouthPaw1805 Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that part of the issue in the UK is that most airfields regularly used by GA pilots aren't equipped with ILS equipment, so you have to be sequenced between commercial flights.

Perhaps if GA paid for UK ATC then it would be better.

I did a discovery flight about a month ish ago, and now I have a log book with an hour in it! In January I'm planning to start training and working toward getting my PPL, the radios are really intimidating, but I feel I will get the hang of it. Do you have any beginners advice?

If you don’t have the money to do at least 1 lesson a week I would save up the money so you do the bear minimum 1 a week really you want to be doing 2-3 hours a week otherwise it will be a lot harder in the long run you will be doing more like one lesson then 1.5 lesson then 2 by the time u do your next hour on 1s a week the instructor will be re teaching you half of the next lesson but that’s not always achievable with wether conditions and fitting around peoples work other commitments.all the best tho brother.blue sky’s

@@FlyWithNoelPhilips Good to hear Noel, I am sure will ace the FAA IR in no time, especially given that you already have your IMC (IRR) rating in the UK. I will be in Savannah, GA with our G650 in February and will be doing some GA flying around Georgia also, if you have a spare day or two, I could show you the G650, Gulfstream service center and go and do some GA flying.

What is the point of those obscured glasses when all you do is tilt your head back and look under them ?
@Codehead3
@Codehead3 Жыл бұрын
Well, you can’t always find IMC to fly in and you have to get your training somehow. Even after you obtain your IFR certification you still should fly in actual IMC with a CFI before attempting it alone.
@Bob_Burton
@Bob_Burton Жыл бұрын
@@Codehead3 I know what the purpose of the obscured glasses is, but Noel is plainly just tipping his head back and looking under the obscured part of them thus rendering them a waste of time
