My company makes a few small parts (bearings, brackets) that are used on this plane. Our quality is 100%. 99% is not good enough. Makes me proud to have a very small part of this wonderful plane. I know what we put into our parts and I know that all the other suppliers are held to the same high standards. We also had parts on the space shuttle. Same rigid quality specs.

It does have "winglets" in the form of a blended wing. The smaller version will have the old-school winglets because they need a shorter wing to fit into smaller spaces.

Wow, so exciting, a plane with one engine on each wing, that seats 250 passengers and flies at mach 0.85. We've never seen that before. But the most exciting part is the 15% increased fuel efficiency. When have we ever seen a plane that was more fuel efficient than the generation that came before? Air travel will never be the same.

After years of Delay.. AT LAST!! Congratz to ANA and Boeing!!!
@X_BILSON8 жыл бұрын
Well actually 0.85 is the Typical Cruise Speed. It can infact do Mach 0.90 - of which for some airlines, that extra speed could be used over fuel saving. Of course with a strong enough tailwind it can actually break the speed of sound relative to Ground., meanwhile airspeed will remain 0.90, and anything over that - it will need to be tested for damage.

I am English and I have always way preferred Boeing to Airbus. When the A340-300 came out to take on the 747-400, it was weak in comparison. The A340-600 was an improvement, but still off the mark. Whilst 2 years late, the 787 will be the future of air travel, mark my words.
@JohnGhanem11 жыл бұрын
@bbland52616 it should be 562 MPH (489 Knots) in this case (Explanation Below) Technically, Mach Number is the ratio of the True Airspeed over the Local Speed of sound (LSS). LSS is 38.94 multiplied by the square root of the temperature at the altitude in Kelvin (273+ the temperature in celcius). At 40,000' the temperature would be assumed as the lowest in the troposphere at around 55 degrees Celcius, so by calculation we get the speed of sound as 574 Knots. Mach .85 would be 574 multiplied by 0.85, which gives us the airspeed of the plane to be 489 Kts or 562 MPH. Hope this helps

@averredude101 What do you mean "Smoke" ? Condensation or contrails are normal and are going to emenate from every engine burning hydrocarbon fuels no matter how efficient. During take-off, there can be some smoke because fuel flow into the combustion chamber increases as does overall mass flow and flow velocity. That means that you have to mix and burn more fuel in less time, which creates more rich pockets and unburnt hydrocarbons visible as smoke. That's normal even for modern engines

I must've gone to the wrong boarding gate and missed the plane. I thought the 787 was supposed to compete with the A-380 but clearly the A-380 can haul twice the payload. To me the 787 looks like a 767 so is this plane a replacement? Another thing I thought odd are the flexible wings. Are there any performance enhancements with a flexible wing structure over a more rigid wing as was common on former models? My preferred a/c is the B-717, it's like a cute Mercedes with wings.

what are you talking about. mach .85 is somewhere around 650-700 mph. They said that the flight took 8 and a half hours. Everybody knows that Japan is a really long ways from here, several thousand miles, so I don't know what you mean by a four minute flight.

@airplanelov The yokes move together so that the Pilot Not Flying can see what the Pilot Flying is doing. The throttle still moves in A/T Mode so that the pilots have at least two indications (EICAS on the screen, and the throttles moving) of what the autopilot is doing. In FlybyWire, you can pull the yoke all the way back, but the A/P only lets the plane pitch 20 degrees up or whatever. You can idle the throttles but when you approach stall speed, they spool up to prevent a stall.
@jbrian8012 жыл бұрын
@Scoshed Actually Airbus have fly by wire system, which is more automated than most of Boeing aircraft (except 777 and 787) some of the features on 787 are already implemented on Airbus aircraft. Boeing simply catching up with Airbus "technical edge".
