unfortunately things do not scale linearly in fluid dynamics, what works with a 3 pound RC plane does not mean it will work on a full size.
@jimseviltwin12 ай бұрын
@@JeronimoStilton14 Forunately, they do. A wind tunnel is a perfect example of the application of similitude and modeling . Before the development of computer modeling, a wind tunnel was an essential design tool to examine forces on the scale model of an aircraft under design before a full scale prototype was constructed. But, your point is well taken; a full scale aircraft would need to have similar weight distribution. Accounting for fuel storage and payload would be problematic
@JeronimoStilton142 ай бұрын
@@jimseviltwin1 maybe you are considering similitude and buckingham PI groups as “linear” which I think is a stretch but it’s been a while since I worked with them so maybe they are technically all first order equations and operations, but my point was depending on what you want to study the geometry will not be simply scaled. Wind tunnels are indeed used, but one can’t simply scale a model and have it be an apt comparison of all properties, fluid dynamics is annoying like that lol Also side note it looks like the ngad mock-ups have traditional control surfaces so he’s definitely making his life harder by only using control surfaces in the jet stream.

Mix with other controls in the mapping and you have all axes mapped to a single pair of (doubled-up) control surfaces👌 of course, while it’s got engines in action, it won’t need em
