Flying the Shaka RC plane

In this video I will fly the Shaka from FlightPoint and share my tips & tricks around this flying wing. The Shaka features a classic balsa construction, reinforced with carbon fiber tube spars and leading edge. The kit consists of high quality laser cut balsa and plywood parts, carbon tubes and a complete accessory set.

Many thanks for the video. I fly an unpowered Shaka at the slope, it flies well on a no so windy day, you are correct about the elevator throws, quite sensitive. I think that the fitting of the motor and esc must have been tight, there`s not much room in the fuselage.

Thanks for your comment. Indeed it was a tight fit to get the motor, esc and an additional GPS logger into the small fuselage, but somehow it worked. In the meantime I had the chance to fly it once at the slope but lucky me it was a day with virtually no wind. I will try again as I think the slope is fitting perfectly for the Shaka on days with light winds.

Great inflight and related video. Nice editing of what I suspect is a number of flights. All seems seamless and smooth. The onboard views are amazing, like riding along. The camera mount idea and print is brilliant. Concerning drag, and weight, there is a smaller camera option available (runcam).

Thanks! You're right, it is a combination of 6 flights with the onboard camera and 3 or 4 flights filmed from the ground perspective. The Insta Go 2 is already a great improvement in terms of weight and size compared to my previous solutions but on such a light weight plane (250g) the effect is massive. Perhaps I will try another mount with the Go 2 installed horizontally. But I like the perspective of a more elevated view that I currently have. I will also check out the runcam.

@@bavarian_rc Great editing too. All amazing. The 360 has advantage of built-in image stabilization. Other lighter options would require post-flight processing using software like Gyroflow.

The image stabilization of the Go 2 is quite amazing. For my other cameras like my older GoPro's I did the stabilization in the editing software with a specific plug-in but not always with perfect results. I guess the gyro data of the Insta360 is making the difference. Thanks as well for your positive feedback concerning my editing. Obviously you know what effort is behind editing a video. I try to get better with every video I make but the effort for increasing the quality is kind of exponential and I need to keep in mind that this is just a hobby and I am a one man show 😀 ... but it is still a lot of fun and I enjoy it.

Where to put cg bro i am new

Hi, usually the CG for a „standard“ plane is around 25% of the wing cord. But this might vary from plane to plane and sometimes you will have completely different figures. For a flying wing like the Shaka with its forward swept wings the CG is far more in front. So if you want to be on the safe side then check on the internet as there are many online tools for CG calculation. You can enter your wing geometry and basic dimensions of the plane and it will calculate a range for the CG. For the first flight go to the forward edge of the CG range. A nose heavy plane will fly bad but a tail heavy plane will only fly once 😜 I hope this helps. If you have more questions the don’t hesitate to post another comment
