The takeoff was like I dare you to full throttle this bitch and line up with the centerline

Ive always like the yak-40s. Something about the Tri-star engine config and the straight wings. It has a Certain sex appeal to it. It looks very robust. Ive always said if I ever won the lottery and could afford a private jet, I would import a yak-40.

I've had the same fantasy. However I'm not sure a Yak-40 would be legal in the west these days. Too noisy.

@@H-Zazoo there was a Motor Sich YAK 40 at Aberdeen (EGPD) this week, left today for home. UR-VBV & it created much interest here!

Excellent video! So far from today's glass cockpits, a token to manual handling. Kudos to the officers

This video totally explains the Airbus A320 crash in Adler, Russia (Armavia Flight 967) Both poorly trained pilots had less than 1500 hours in the A320 and both were used to flying Yak 40's and Tupolev 154's. Unlike the YAK 40, the A320 uses two unconnected sidesticks that act independently. Both pilots were fighting each other and attempted to control the aircraft at the same time and so the aircraft was essentially in an uncontrolled dive. The PIC wanted to land but the FO resisted his inputs and tried to abort the landing and go around. Because of the dual-input system, their two inputs canceled each other out.
Cool! It was charter flight for aviation fans from Motor Cich? Separate or a part from aviation tour?By the way, I'm from city, where all Yak-40 aircrafts was build.

Seems that this model has serious torque to port, as the controls were hard over starboard and then some! Wow!

Could have been a .......crosswind.......maybe? :-)

@@SuperSetright Yes I think so too.

As a former airline pilot I was interested in the CRM and how both pilots had their hands fully on the yokes!? Also the boxes on top by the windscreen was something I've never seen. The FO had reduced forward visibility.
@KaylieRayne8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Jackson The Big box in the center is the radar if I remember right. The Little Box next to the copilot is an updated Nav system I think, DME and such(thats what it looks like anyways, could be wrong) This is just the base yak-40 model. the Later Jetstars and VTOLs had updated dash layouts to use modern systems.
@michae8jackson3788 жыл бұрын
+worlock1422 thanks. How was the visibility with that stuff. Seems very reduced!?
@akula97168 жыл бұрын
+Michael Jackson It's not that significantly reduced. The Kontur in the middle does reduce the fwd-left a bit but the captain monitors that as he doesn't have to monitor any engine instruments. The KLN in front of the copilot only reducea visibility down which is not really needed because it still allows the copilot to see basically what a320 pilots see.

Why is the 3rd crew member operating the throttles? As the pilot flying wouldn't YOU want your hand on them? I guess this is standard procedure in these old jets.

Looks like too many people in the damn cockpit
@jamessavage36222 жыл бұрын
Flight engineers back in the day were the ones who operated the throttles for take off. I want to say Sam has another video of a crew flying a 727 and the flight engineer was the one operating the throttles.

And landing
@king09p18 жыл бұрын
+ajk1251 I think it was to compensate for the wind.
@michae8jackson3788 жыл бұрын
Yes it's for crosswind correction so the wings don't rise up and the aircraft would have a wing strike or worse!
@akula97168 жыл бұрын
If there's a strong crosswind, it will try to lift the other wing up, and that is compensated with this procedure. Just to prevent banking on the runway. I've seen many western aircraft have the procedure too, like turboprops and some business jets.

why are boyh pilots hands on the controls is the question
@akula97168 жыл бұрын
Because it's against the manual to not have. The onboard mechanic deals with the throttles. Safety

+Yak40 Pilot no im saying both pilots have hands on the yoke steering the olane
@akula97168 жыл бұрын
+Al Gaz If the PF becomes incapable of flying the aircraft during such critical phases of flight, the PNF can immediately take the controls. Also it is a way for the captain to teach the f/o fly the aircraft perfectly. In Airbus the instructor can never teach the f/o by correcting him with the yoke, because they're not connected. Therefore in the Yak, the copilot learns to handle the aircraft excellently because the captains adjustments show him how he should correct some errors in flying. It did prove to work in the SU, the pilots' ability to handle the aircraft by hand is a lot better in old soviet planes than in for example boeings and airbuses, partially because of this.
