Hey great video as always! Just wanted to note, IATA doesn't make any rules but instead just works mainly to simplify things for airlines when it comes to safety and passenger standards, its more similar to a syndicate for airlines than anything. So the laws and rules are in the hands of the regional or national organisation in charge of civil aviation, such as the FAA, EASA or in the case of China the CAAC.

I really enjoyed my Xiamen air flight out of Beijing Fuzhuo into Malaysia. The airport experience at Fuzhuo was a bit miserable and everyone there was super grumpy - but the flights themselves were pleasant. Really cheap business class, and the crew were very attentive ; being able to speak Chinese is a big help too

IMHO, if you didn't have an overnight stay in Xiamen with the free hotel experience provided by the airline, you didn't get the full Xiamen Air experience. I did it in January from AMS to TPE with the unavoidable stopover. There was no facial recognition thing at the airport then, the crew of the flight from AMS was kind and caring, the food was good & the legroom decent. It compared very much favorably to my flight on Qatar from Seoul to Doha the previous month, which I really didn't enjoy. The only downside for me was that communicating with the airline beforehand was not easy but that's the case for most Chinese airlines. Would take them again in a heartbeat, especially for that price.

I fly a lot for work and have been to China many times. I am a rule follower, but Chinese airports often have non-sensible polices. In 2022 while passing through a Chinese airport security, they confiscated by 1oz size hand-sanitizer citing it contains alcohol. When I raised concerns saying I need to disinfect my hands in the middle of a pandemic, they made me just empty out the hand-sanitizer and let me keep the 1oz bottle. Once I clear security and emerge onto the concourse, I ran into, you guessed it, an alcohol-based hand-sanitizer station that holding a seemingly 1 liter size bottle that I could just refill my 1oz bottle with. Better yet, when I boarded my flight, they were handing out "safety kits" that contained masks...and you guessed it again, a tiny pack of hand sanitizer...also alcohol-based!

smoking lounge in mainland China’s airports is always equipped with lighter or say ignition bit, so you can smoke without bringing your own lighter.

In USA, we are not allowed to bring lighters on planes. I fly out of LAX to international locations 3 times a year. They have face recognition at security and when I come back to LAX, we have to look into camera for face recognition and finger prints too. I think if your plane take of at night time, they do dim the lights in LAX. A lot of planes don’t do the normal safety in the aisle or announce the take off, everything is on the screens in front of the passengers. I think you didn’t pay attention to the screen in front of you. I like this way better, be cause the plane can take of without me feeling it. There are old ways and newer ways to fly now. I like the light blue interior color.

The CAAC is now reconsidering the subsidy towards the international flights out of non first-tier cities in China. Not so sure whether the extreme cheap ticket will still be a thing in the future.

Really? No way. That's strange. Last year in June, I flew China Eastern from Ho Chi Minh to London via Shanghai, if I recall correctly, I think the cabin light is turn off for takeoff and landing, 1 way, I pay $390, it's very cheap, similar to yours, but lower than me.

Some airports including Xiamen along the Taiwan strait are shared or close to military facilities, hence the require of close/dim down window shutters at take-off or landing.
