As a Kalamazoo resident it is fun to see what others think of our little museum. Which is not so little anymore. It used to be just the building next to where you parked your plane. Now we have two rather large buildings! Great video!

at 20:20, that's a Douglas A-3 Skywarrior forward fuselage. It's a large carrier-based attack aircraft from the late 50's. I finally got to the Air Zoo last fall, and it was a great experience!

I've been there and I love it; for me it's close, only an hour away driving. This is a true Gem that is relatively unknown.

Thank you for sharing. I went to an air museum in Colorado Springs yesterday. It had impressive aircraft and comparable to what you just showed. But wow, Kalamazoo really showcased some amazing stuff! I’ll add that to my list of places to see.

4:40 nice pushover! And then the controller was so .. bored? clearing you in. sounds like the same dude at 28:20. 6:00 is a ..what.. aircraft? 12:20 reminds me of the spinner on the RV12. slightly different purpose. interesting to see the size difference of the Vari-eze. It looks child-sized. cool museum! love the floor paint, thanks for bringing us along. love how you talk through it. looking forward to the oxygen install!

my mom works at the air zoo so i have a bit of info on the hole in the xp-55's wing. according to her, someone was moving one something with a forklift around and they accidentally hit the wing with the fork. the hole was actually much larger but they fixed some of it, and they cant patch the whole wing without going through a bunch of bureaucracy

I enjoyed all your video shared the good flying time and the trial and tribulation on maintenance of an experimental airplane. i liked the VK30 at it time was a nice change to see in the Flying of the experimental airplane at its time. Saw at Sun n Fun in Florida in a flyover there then three years later in 1992 at AOPA in Legas got to speak with the pilot that talked of his flight in Iceing condition with no de-ice boots on the aircraft.. at my service location in the USAF in 1968 I was tasked to work on the ECM of an SR 171 at Eglin AFB Fla was nice to see it fly in and out of that location and to have the experience of setting in the pilot seat. there one outside at an Air Force museum on base at Eglin main base that I got to see a few year back. now at age 78 I live near a local GA airport in Central Florida and just dream of past flying time in South Florida and down of the Fla Key. Thanks again for share you flying with us

Wow! I stumbled across this video by accident and as a Portage resident (where the airport & museum are located) I had to watch it. Now, there a couple of naming mistakes here & there and I point one out in particular just because... that Wright engine was on a B-29 "Superfortress" (later in its long career, they were designated the B-50) & the B-52 "Stratofortress" is an 8 jet engined behemoth that has been active for 70 years! I only hope that is helpful because I really enjoyed watching this video and mistakes happen to all of us. For me, the most frustrating mistakes that I make are when I know something yet my mouth & brain team up to make me (feel like I) look stupid. That is the last thing that I want to do someone else, so I try to be as constructive as possible. Anyway, great video, and I love that COZY! I live under the pattern and I remember that cozy flying overhead as I am often relaxing in my chair in the back yard.

I went through and took videos and pictures of things that I found especially interesting...but I did not take notes at ALL, so most of the identification is me trying to remember what I saw, and identify things from what I see in the video. I figured I would get a few of them wrong, and I knew that people in the comments would make corrections for me! :)

That particular Ford Tri-Moror was featured in a movie, don't remember which one though. Their SR-71 is rare as it is one of a couple of trainers ever existed.

Great video. But FYI it was a F1 rocket engine from a Saturn 5 booster, not a Saturn engine for an Atlas rocket.

Apparently it depends on aircraft type but on some, counter intuitively, pulling nose way up when high on final adds a heap of drag and helps with those close in circuits.
@CanardBoulevard
@CanardBoulevard 5 ай бұрын
Pulling the nose way up high when on final (at low approach speed) is going to increase your angle of attack beyond critical, causing a stall and a spin. I'm not sure what airplanes' operating handbook would recommend doing this...? Even if you didn't reach the critical AoA, you're going to be very close to it, so only a gust of wind could cause you to stall/spin into the ground. Not good!

love your channel Scott - I watch all your videos I don't think the SR-71 start cart ever used Chevy 350's. The original version used a pair of Buick Nailhead V-8's and then years later the updated version used a pair of Chevy 454's. The one at the museum looks like an original one with the Buick's
@carlbeaver7112

Ditto. Came to see if anyone else caught that. I began as a mechanic in '70, it's been many years since I've worked on an actual Buick V8, let alone a Nailhead.

I remembered they had used Chevys, and you're right, they did use the 454's, not the 350's, and now that you mention the Buicks, I remember reading that as well.

@@CanardBoulevard350’s are the small block V8, and only make about 260HP NA (my family has a boat with 2 of them so I’m pretty damn familiar with them) I forget what 454’s are though but know some people who had a slightly smaller boat with a SINGLE 454 and it kept up just fine.

Have you done a video of the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH, at Wright Patterson AFB? You'd have to land at a civilian field and get a ride over to the museum; but the museum is free admission. Good catch on the B airspace, but I don't think the FAA would have taken any action against your certificate, but you never know if you catch the wrong operations investigator on the wrong day.

I haven't been to the Air Force museum in quite a few years, I know it is massive and will take at least a couple days to go through properly, but it's in the plans!
