Sorry to hear you had such a confusing time with the ticketing system! The most promising way to get the tickets when confusing is to go talk to the staff in the ticketing windows (if you have time). Tell them the destination and they can give the necessary tickers and instructions. I find that a lot of them often know a little bit of English, at least just to give enough instructions! 05:50 I don't think the 30 dollars you got charged was a fine because we don't have fine system for not having the train tickets in Japan (except for the rare intentional occasions). We can always pay for the separate Express tickets before the ride or inside the trains. This happens a lot because you can choose to take the "normal" or "rapid" trains once you are inside the ticketing gates. So you pay the entrance fee with IC card that normally cover the "normal" train rides, but if you choose to take the "rapid" ones you also need the Express ticket separately. But still, I feel 30 dollars (guessing AUD?) is quite pricey for the trip from the Osaka airport to Shin Osaka.At the same time I also don't think the ticket inspectors could rip you off because cheating in their system is very hard... so maybe tickets were for the whole trip to Kyoto?? 07:54 That's Torikawa, and you guessed it right, it's chicken skin! It's quite popular and the good ones can be a little crispy and tasty but it is difficult to make it tasty and a lot of cheap ones tend to be chewey and gummy and just not good... I recommend to eat this in proper Kushiyaki (skewer) or Yakitori restaurants.

So glad we decided to visit Japan on your days off! Also to anyone suggesting translator apps, we definitely tried that. The problem wasn’t that we couldn’t understand the ticket machines (they had an English option), but just that we didn’t have a fundamental understanding of how the travel systems worked. We would line up for a ticket machine and it wouldn’t do what we were expecting it to do. A lot of the time it would give us a “please see staff for assistance” type message and we couldn’t understand what we were doing wrong. And not speaking the language was just the additional stress haha. We learnt later on in the trip that it’s much easier when you ask the staff at the ticket office for help (they speak some English). Eventually our travel became easier but it was just a long, tiring first day in!

Yeah it was pretty difficult! Glad we got there in the end!

About the trains in Japan, there is a local train and there’s a rapid express (different from the shinkansen). At the local train, you just have to pay the fee to go from one station to the next. For the rapid express, you pay the same fee PLUS extra because of the upgraded service. Usually, the stations where the rapid express trains pass through have another ticket machine at the platform for those trains.

Awwwww you two are just so cute together. Bri, gosh! I miss Japan so much, and this vlog really makes me wanna go back so badly. I remember commenting on your previous vlog to go to Japan on your 5- day long off from work. I am sure I wasn't the only one, as many people surely love Japan! I saw familiar places in this vlog and I can't wait for the Kyoto video.

Brie & Braden, so hope you have a great time in Japan, if you have a window seat coming home pay attention to the ground crew. In Japan they usually wave goodbye and bow to all planes exiting.

For future reference or anyone reading this after the fact… The Haruka Train goes directly from KIX (Osaka Airport) to Kyoto and is about $26 to $30 USD (currency fluctuates) There are two versions Express (few stops) and Limited Express (a lot of stops). If you cannot remember Haruka it is the train with the Hello Kitty livery. You guys are amazing, I really appreciate the fact you guys explore and take a sh! Happens approach to travel, gotta have fun and not take it too seriously. Mahalo for sharing. #Aloha 🤙🏾

I had a similar problem when I attended a language school in Germany 4 years ago. When the plane landed in Munich I had been travelling for about 30 hours without a proper sleep. I had to catch a train from the airport into Munich and when the train arrived in the main train station, it was underground. Not what I was expecting. Then I had to find my hotel. I had trouble trying to orientate myself with the map. Even after asking people for directions, it took me one and a half hours to find my hotel, when in actual fact it should have only taken 5 minutes! I found out later though that the short cut way to my hotel was blocked by a construction site, which meant I had to detour anyway. It was very nerve wracking for me considering I am in my mid fifties, not used to international travel, and I had to carry all my luggage with me 😪

oh Ye took limited Express train Haruka from Kansai international airport station to JR Shin Osaka station so ye had to pay more even if yer seats were non reserved. Some Haruka actually go to Kyoto station too. Of course shinkansen bullettrains would be faster than limited express /local/rapid trains so on. I have stayed in Melbourne just for one week but it was November,2001. My kiwi mates in Melbourne stayed in Osaka,Japan just for one week in October,2010 which was not long enough to see many things. still better than staying home though:) late March would be the best timing to see Sakura cherry blossoms in fully bloom if ye want to enjoy seeing them in Osaka,Kyoto so on. cheers

$30 is the ticket price if it was a direct train from the airport to the city. Suica/Pasmo would normally be fine but trains that are a special service require a ticket to be bought!

My take away from this vlog: make sure you have a translator app on your phone that uses your camera and translates text on a ticket machine! 🤪 I saw some Ukrainian refugees using this in church a little while ago - to translate what was on the screen. So cool. So necessary when you're in another country without the language knowledge! Can't wait for the next instalment ✈

Hi thank you for your videos, I really enjoy watching them They are inspirational and becoming a flight attendant is my dream job. I have a question I would like to ask you. So I am bilingual, and I can speak English and Japanese. If I were to become a flight attendant, would I be more likely to be hired for international flights to Japan? Or just domestic flights around Australia?

Hi Brieana, possibly a quick but silly question that you kinda touched on it in the vlog. where did you get and maybe what travel adaptor did you use for Japan, im from Australia and have a 3 prong lap top but cannot find any adaptors over here and reluctant to buy something random from Amazon.
@BrieanaYoung Жыл бұрын
Do you use any apple products - if you do i recommend their adapters! Other then that you can get them at Kmart or Amazon is pretty good!
@ducsue751 Жыл бұрын
I don't think is a fine, but you didn't really bought a ticket for the train you are boarding to your distination. The fair which probably needs to be purchased at a counter and cost $15 each one way.

We took the same flight from HKG to OSAKA! But you should stay on the train you took from Osaka airport to Kyoto coz it’s a direct train (Haruka train right?)
@BrieanaYoung Жыл бұрын
No way! when did you fly there? yeah Braden really wanted to experience the shinkansen (bullet train) while we where there but we failed getting on it haha.. you're right it would of been easier just to stay on that train straight to kyoto!

Awww, the ticket situation can happen to the best of us, Italy is really confusing as well, so don't stress. Random question: Have you noticed the cost of travel insurance has sky-rocketed since "C"? I'm looking at some international travel, and now it's including "C" cover they seem to have upped the price significantly since the pre pandemic. Hope you don't mind me asking 🙂

In January we finally got to go on our first cruise since 2020 - travel insurance was required in order to entire New Caledonia. It was soooo much more expensive than pre-2020. But what can you do - we had to have it and have proof before boarding.
