My husband and I travel to Fort Worth TX, where we meet Daniel in his Velocity XL-5. We find him at the Airplanes and Coffee event at Alliance airport, and blast off at 200 mph, powered by a 300 HP Lycoming.
You can find out more about Daniel's shop at www.iflynta.com/!
Follow me (Emma) on instagram @emmafliesplanes! If you have an airplane and you'd like to be interviewed, email me at emma@flyingdoodles.com.

Ive always wondered about these. The technique sounds like flying a fast/military jet, no rudder etc. The stall reminds me of a cross between a Rallye and/or a Eurostar (Sportstar LSA) or C42 (3 axis fixed wing microlight), eg like a Sycamore leaf😀👍 In Blighty we dont have stall warnings in many 3A FW microlights, so one has to be aware, as 500fpm sink rate can still happen quickly in Sycamore mode if the pilot isnt on the ball. Exciting aeroplane, superbly equipped, I bet the original owner was gutted (sadly I've seen it all too often). Great video though, thanks for sharing 👍✌️😊💜

Outstanding video! Really enjoyed it and I didn't realize there wasn't much GA traffic in or out of Alliance. There's a lot of commercial traffic for sure! We live about 9-10 miles from it and picked up a Golden Retriever rescue pup that a GA Cessna flew in to us from Odessa back in May. Please keep up the great content and you're doing a great job bringing the channel back!

That is the coolest-looking private plane I have ever seen. I'm going to have to build a radio-controlled version. I wonder if the plans are available for the home built? If you have any more information that would be great? I would love to build a 1/4 scale version to fly radio control.

Thanks for the video. Excellent airplane! I've been flying mine for over 9 years and love mine but I have not found some of the things Daniel describes to be accurate. Mine has the Continental IO-550-N27B rated at 310 HP. Accordingly, I can get max cruise of 205 KNOTS burning 14 gal/hr. If I run lean of peak to 11-12 gph I can get 195 Knots. Also, don't understand what he is saying about the rudders in cruise, mine are effective in all regimes of flight. Because my kit was an early kit, I have separate rudder actions which means I can apply both rudders simultaneously and achieve excellent speed braking effect in all flight regimes. However, all these aircraft are home built and all built a little bit differently, so your mileage may vary.

According to Marc Zeitlin, the Roncz canard is suspected (by John Roncz, the designer) of having a critical Mach # of about 0.5 mach. If the Velocity canard has the same airfoil as the Cozy and LongEZ. The canard at higher airspeeds the center of lift keeps moving aft on the airfoil until it loses lift. That puts the airplane into a dive that is unrecoverable, because the airspeed keeps increasing. At an unpressurized service ceiling of 25,000, 0.5 mach is about 300KIAS. 220 was picked as a round number that is close to 75% of the Mcrit at a reasonable max service cieling. There is also an issue of elevator flutter on canards, but that's a much longer discussion.

Curious how you prevent prop strikes on TO and Landing. Is it just proper pitch control and being "very" careful?
@toxicxtreme
@toxicxtreme Ай бұрын
So this is our plane and you actually can’t hit the prop. The wings are so swept back that the wings would hit before anything but that just can’t happen.

I'd been watching Part 103 planes & a Canard popped up in my feed..... lol, very cool, kool, and kewl planes but then I realized the Canard wasn't a Part 103. It's alright, it's still one I watch & yesterday the Velocity popped into the feed. My immediate thought was if they were from the same builder or place? They have to be related but I digress; this plane is almost exact but faster & I do like it ! What's not to like? Thanks for the video. peace & GB

I would get your aircraft checked out by the factory. There is something wrong with your ailerons if you are having them catch like that. I have built and owned my velocity for 25 years and my ailerons do not do this. They are smooth through full range. I’ve heard of others that have had this happen. Typically the ailerons are not set correctly or are not built correctly.

If you have VGs installed and fly it 80 on final, you can easily get them stopped in 1500 feet. I’ve had my Velocity in and out of 2500 foot strips many times and close to gross weight. Most pilots fly the Velocities too fast on final.
