My cousin flew one of these into a set of high voltage transmission lines, blinded by sun. It broke windscreen, melted holes in both wing top skins. He nosed it straight down for airspeed, landed it in the hayfield. FAA had fun with him!! Power was knocked out for 3 days in the county. He was a daredevil skydiver. He eventually restored it, and is still flying it today. God was looking over him that evening. 🙏🙏

I like Kaitlin's attitude about landing. You can just go around.
@HornWorm8Күн бұрын
YES. ALWAYS just go around. It's that simple. NEVER let a landing put you in a bad situation. Go around. I once was trying to land on a way that had deer on it...off to the side i had to make the quickest decision of my life. Just as I flared deer ran onto the runway. I had to hit the fuel NOW and HARD. GO AROUND. I'm alive today because I gave power and went around...missing a mama deer and her fawn by feet. Nothings EVER wrong with going around. That should be emphasized WAY more in flight school.

Btw I also once landed on a runway with a racoon on it. I only saw the racoon at the last minute. At that time, I was flying IFR. That wasn't the same thing as the deer. BUT you never know what to expect. BTW, the racoon didn't make it. Still, if it were deer and not a racoon, I wouldn't be alive to tell the story. Flying is dangerous.... most people don't want to hear that...but it's true.

@@HornWorm8 The calm demeanor goes well with being an instructor. I had a landing with my glider that dogs ran out at me when I was landing and had to bounce the plane over the pack of dogs. In my power plane I never have to think twice if a landing is not going well I just go around. In gliders not so much.

Rocking good drive. I have family in Haltom City, so I will have to start looking around a little more so I can find the vintage hanger.

Brings back fond memories of flying in a '46 7-AC Champ 🙂 I have about 20-25 hours in that old Champ but, that was in 1969 🙂

Hi Emma. Usual story. Stumbled onto your channel, liked and subscribed. As a kid I grew up loving the times my Dad took me down to our local aero club. My first experience was in a 1946 J3. And like a lot of kids, the PPL came before the legal age for driving a car. 1960s. Go figure. Now at 78, and having experienced a heart event, I can no longer get a medical. It is what it is.!! Thanks for sharing, and all the best, from down here in NZ.

I grew up in this area, but have never flow GA in the area. Plan to fly in this area where I grew up soon. Hicks, copeland, mecham, eagle mountain etc. bringing back to my childhood.

Now I'm confused. I thought the 12 was a 140 without flaps and no windows behind the doors. That one has windows, were they added? Optional? Certain year?
@deadivinus5 күн бұрын
D windows were a commonly installed option on the 120’s. These were added after original purchase in 1946

i always struggle to hear clear and precise comms with the tower in many of the pilots radio comms...way different in their normal tone..

What is the difference between the 120's and the 140"s??

@deadivinus6 күн бұрын
Biggest “tell-tale” is a lack of flaps on the 120

Also, 120s did not leave the factory with the rear side window, but many have been retro-fitted.

Busy gal. Lovely aeroplane. My dad had a C150B, and Aeronca Chief, Luscombe Silvaire love those types of aircraft. The Vagabond, the Pacer, the Tripacer are also favourites too, along with Jodels (first aeroplane I flew in and had some hands and feet time on). Sadly in Blighty smaller Cessnas are getting very thin on the ground🤔😟😟💔💔
