First up we caught one of these crazy white tuk tuks up to Sao Jorge Castle to explore the medieval castle of Lisbon city but not before Mum decided to take too many selfies...
Our bellies started to grumble and we were ready to try some local Portuguese food...a paella which we now realise is Spanish (haha, we will make this mistake up for you in a future video)!
When we asked you what we should do and eat, a resounding support of the Pastel de Nata came through...you guys love your custard tarts...and to be honest we do too!
Next stop is Praca do Comercial by the sea before moving onto the famous Pink street...which... well wasn't as pink as we thought it would be!
We then stumbled upon a little street market that was selling Sangria and Pastel De Bacalhau which had an incredibly cool vibe to end our first day.
Up bright and early we decided to beat the crowds and go at 7am to Santa Justa lift to find the best views of Lisbon city.
Our biggest bucket list in Lisbon was to go to Bairro Alto to ride the old yellow trams :)
After catching up with the family again we made our way to Pena Palace to end our unforgettable 2 days in this city...and wow this fairytale palace is a must see!

Those childish comments are not about you, are about the difficult relationship Portuguese have always had with Spain. Portugal is smaller and poorer, so they always felt Spain was a menace. Next time you have to visit the city of Porto that is part of the Douro region. You guys need to taste Porto´s Wine and eat "Francesinha" which is the typical dish of Porto.Some of the must-visit in Porto are Ribeira, Crystal Palace Gardens,Livraria Lello(Whith more than a century old,this was one of the places that inspired JK Rowling while writing Harry Potter), Marés Swimming Pool and Porto Wine Cellars!! Or if you prefer wonderful beaches and breathtaking views I highly recommend the Algarve. Lots of Kisses :)

The castle's history started in the Middle Ages when a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Pena was built on the top of the hill above Sintra. According to tradition, construction occurred after an apparition of the Virgin Mary.In 1493, King John II, accompanied by his wife Queen Leonor, made a pilgrimage to the site to fulfill a vow. His successor, King Manuel I, was also very fond of this sanctuary, and ordered the construction of a monastery on this site which was donated to the Order of Saint Jerome. For centuries Pena was a small, quiet place for meditation, housing a maximum of eighteen monks.In the 18th century the monastery was severely damaged by lightning. However, it was the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755, occurring shortly afterwards, that took the heaviest toll on the monastery, reducing it to ruins. Nonetheless, the chapel (and its works of marble and alabaster attributed to Nicolau Chanterene) escaped without significant damage.After the death of Ferdinand the palace passed into the possession of his second wife Elisa Hensler, Countess of Edla. The latter then sold the palace to King Luís, who wanted to retrieve it for the royal family, and thereafter the palace was frequently used by the family. In 1889 it was purchased by the Portuguese State, and after the Republican Revolution of 1910 it was classified as a national monument and transformed into a museum. The last queen of Portugal, Queen Amélia, spent her last night at the palace before leaving the country in exile. The palace quickly drew visitors and became one of Portugal's most visited monuments. Over time the colors of the red and yellow façades faded, and for many years the palace was visually identified as being entirely gray. By the end of the 20th century the palace was repainted and the original colors restored. In 1995, the palace and the rest of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra were classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

About the elevator thing, a beautiful moment I had once, in return for your amazing adventures: after our marriage, we had a one-day honeymoon trip down to Oklahoma City. And the next morning I got up pretty early (compared to my lovely vampire wife) and went to the roof of the hotel to take pics of the sunrise. And on this whole roof there was just one other guy. Playing bagpipes. We had a short conversation. He was from Idaho and heading south (with his family) to play the bagpipes on his father's grave. He was just practising. So I didn't take a photo. Just let him have his privacy. But I'll never forget this moment up on the roof of almost all Oklahoma City. Have a great time in Portugal. Greetings from the north of Germany!

Really great video. I've watched many travel videos on youtube and yours is defineately first rate. Heading back to Miami by way of Lisbon then spending 2 nights there. So many videos with wind noise, bad music or back and forth . Yes, yours is excellent.

I forgot to say...if you have the time, pls take a boat trip to the Douro Valley wine region (Porto). It is completely breathtaking! :) One of the best restaurants to try "Francesinhas" is "Café Santiago" at Porto downtown. But the best vegetarian "Francesinhas" are at "Al Forno da Baixa". You can also stroll along the Douro riverside ("Ribeira"), watch the sunset in the "garden of the joyful promenade" (jardim do passeio alegre - Foz do Douro - Porto) or visit the Fort of Francisco Xavier (mostly known as "Cheese Castle" :)). There are still so many things to see. I hope you enjoy it!

Let it be known to people visiting Lisbon in the future, if you go to Lisbon and you see a restaurant showcasing paella, it's a tourist trap. We do eat paella here, but in the same way you'd eat lasagna or some other popular dish from another country. The reason you see paella restaurants in Lisbon is because they're banking on the fact tourists expect to see paella because we're close enough to Spain and it's a familiar dish. But it will most likely be expensive and it's usually a type of food chain, so not as good as eating local food anyway. In fact avoid any "main street" restaurant. The big streets and avenues, especially the grid-like Manueline streets leading up to Terreiro do Paço, are lined with tourist trap restaurants that all serve the same things: paella, expensive steaks and touristy more familiar food like pizzas, lasagna, pasta and so on. I'd stick to either a small quiet spot with locals in it that may look crummier, or more "lived in", but better overall, or trendier younger fusion food spots around the bar districts, which may be expensive but at least you're trying something different that's not paella or pizza.

Paella is definitely not a portuguese food.... That's Spanish! Woolworths sells Portuguese tarts but of course is not the same. Sangria is also Spanish! XD

Valter Portugal No is not althgough same says that, The Spanish says that was invented in the Andalusia Region, does the name Sangria, the blood of the bull. The Portuguese says that was invented in Portugal, does the name Sangria, blood color. No one knows for sure, one thing is certain, is from the Iberian peninsula. Only yhe Portuguese and Spanish can produce this beverege under the name Sangria, a 2014 UE Law.The Portuguese and Spanish recipes are diferent though

Well we have the portuguese adapted Paella name called Arroz à Valenciana: Being that Valencia Spain is the typical place of paella: So calling it Paella or Arroz 'a Valenciana will not make a big difference. Arroz de Marisco is quite better and cooked on a different way but still very similar! By the way: That Paella was overcooked! Overcooked rice is not good! And of course when you are a tourist that has plenty of places to go on a short time the easiest way is fast food like most go to american restaurants, ¿ is there any problem about it? of course there isn't . Especially when we have no idea of what to eat according to our taste.
