You WON`T BELIEVE Whats inside this Flywheel! ;) Moment of Inertia meets Artificial Intelligence. Safety first! The Torque Limiter will prevent the Marble Machine to Explode if something gets stuck in a gear somewhere, saving a concert or the whole world tour.
Huge thanks to the entire MMX team for all the work being done behind the scenes and especially Tobi, Alex and Florian for the help with the flywheel:

In my imagination. On the world tour you will have a crew of a bunch of people to change the song. And it will look like a formula one pit stop. Edit: When i say f1 pit stop, what I mean is that a bunch of guys come out and they all have one job. E.G Guy #1 changes left song plates Guy #2 changes right song plates Guy #3 changes first half of vibraphone scale Guy #4 changes second half of vibraphone scale Guy #5 tunes bass Guy #6 adjusts the music timing clutch Guy #7 and 8 fixes any problems and get martin whatever he needs (cranking that crank for upwards of an hour will get exausting) Martin entertains crowd All in 10-20 seconds Hope that clears up some confusion Edit2: thank you so much for getting me top comment under one of my favorite youtubers everyone! @NealD
@NealD 5 жыл бұрын
Suraj Chandiramani I was wondering if there was a way to equalize them all. Since 1 turn is 1 thread, a line on an allen wrench will be inaccurate. Bottoming out all of the screws and counting backwards, is probably the best way to go about it.

@NealD

F1NNSP1N I wondered about the necessary consistency. It seems the friction would add up across the marbles? Or will the limiter be limited only to the one tightest marble?
@Finnspin_unicycles
@Finnspin_unicycles 5 жыл бұрын
@@NealD Somewhere inbetween. It won't completely add up, since due to different tolerances in the hole spacing and since not all marbles will get the same forces. If you have a spline connection, you estimate that somewhere ~70% the strength of the sum of all connection points is used. Due to the springloading, which will make it somewhat more forgiving on tolerances, I'd guess that it probably adds up almost completely in this case.

Good work. I appreciate your effort in explaining the physics behind the design, however, you seem to confuse the terms: Torque, Moment of inertia and angular momentum: 0:41 : The flywheel of the toy car gains angular momentum - its moment of inertia is not changing. 1:30 : More weight is not necessarily equal to higher moment of inertia. it depends on geometry as well and more so than mass. what you meant to say is that moment of inertia is linearly proportional to material density. moment of inertia is proportional to the square of the distance to the axis of rotation. 1:30 : Reducing the diameter of the pulley wheel, does not increase the moment of inertia of the flywheel. i suppose what you meant was the because the gear ratio is higher, then you can obtain more angular momentum of the flywheel with the same speed at the crank-wheel. Extra comments: 4:45 : You explain that the ratcheting noise is from the area of the graph after the clutch has disengaged and stays at a constant low torque value. I would say that the noise is from the "marbles" springing back into their seats (or the extra ratcheting mechanism) after the clutch has been disengaged and rotated 1/5 revolution. therefore the ratcheting noise is from the torque limiter, and the graph should not have single ramp, but be a saw tooth :P whose frequency matched the frequency of the frequency of the ratcheting. 15:00 : The extra ratcheting mechanism is in principle the same mechanism as the one with the marbles. The only principal difference is that the second ratcheting mechanism only has a sloped cam surface to one direction of movement, whereas the "marble" ratcheting mechanism has sloping surfaces to both sides. you could just have increased the slope of the marble seat in one direction and achieved the same result, with less noise probably. It is really inspiring to watch the build process of the MMX :)

Lukas Graphen I second this, don’t really see where the zener fits in
@hdrenginedevelopment7507
@hdrenginedevelopment7507 5 жыл бұрын
@@telefon72 a zener when in reverse bias is used like a safety relief voltage shunt. One use is in automotive and industrial microcontroller I/O where you have to protect a sensitive input. For example, a 5V logic level input with a tolerance of 5.5V maximum before damage is done, a 5.1V zener tied to the input line in reverse bias to ground will shunt anything over 5.1V to ground (example, wire insulation becomes damaged and 12V supply touches 5V signal), and the micro input only sees 5.1V and is saved. They are also used in the same manner as a simple voltage supply regulator.
@amdnable
@amdnable 5 жыл бұрын
@@LukasFink1 I respectfully disagree. A fuse would be like one of the solution they described: a screw designed to break at a certain torque. I see the comparison with a Zener diode that channels the overcurrent to the ground (through a resistor) when the voltage exceeds a certain value. It's a system that rests itself, just like the marble in the coupler.

It would be cool, but Martin has made clear that he doesn't want to introduce any kind of electricity in the MMX. Only mechanical movement. I personally don't mind the fingers, as long as they aren't as floppy as the prototypes he made in the other video. Having them as a solid, rigid piece of plywood would make them look like the ones on the original marble machine.
