Wow, some essential situational awareness there Scott. Mega thanks and respect for the outstanding 'Reason, Reason & Reality' briefing and reminders of the danger and prevalence of false IFF. In regards to Situational Awareness: Might I submit that no matter if we are a potential victim of war, or a professional warrior, that developing a sense rational sense of what constitutes acts of war, and the imminent consequences of acts of war is essential and paramount at times like these, and that what we hope and pray for (war?) be predicated on a foundation of objective reason and compassion and situational awareness, and not on lies, propaganda and agendas designed to obscure reason and awareness by fomenting mass resentment and hate. Thanks for going above and beyond to help keep trajectories straight and level.

Brevity is the soul of wit. Your analysis, esp. the of air and logistics strategy, is very much appreciated. I was USAF-enlisted at a joint U.S. - Dutch airbase at Soesterberg (32TFS) betw '78-'80. Felt real safe with those F-15s stationed there. The elderly locals also certainly appreciated our presence having experienced what the Nazis did to the Lowlands a mere 35yrs previous.

Mud. Rasputitsa. Napoleon’s Best General. The Kursk WWII tank battle was in July for that reason. NATO has around one tank retriever per 15 tanks, and I haven't seen a Russian one yet. Russia apparently didn't even bring their VTR's and wreckers, planning on being entirely road bound for speed, but making them vulnerable because they can't disperse for security. Drone observation is the key tactic of this war - Ukraine is shooting mortars, artillery and even remoted anti-tank missiles with it - and is the reason Russia's attack is about to collapse from its own weight, as we also don't see much two-way traffic on the MSR's. They are about to run out of everything.

Thanks Scott for your 2 reports on the Ukraine situation. As a long retired infantry officer I agree entirely with your analysis. I think the quality of high ranking Russian officers, like most military forces these days, is very low. Why they would invade at this time of year makes no sense, might as well have left their tanks at home. It is a sad state of affairs for Ukraine and Russian forces to be suffering because of the decisions of politicians. If the only persons required to fight started at the civilian and military top leaders the world would see a lot less conflict.

Thanks Scott, well done. I/we have a clearer understanding off what's going on there, in the air and on the ground. One other lesson that seems to be lost on Russian Military planners is what happened to them in Afghanistan. With Allied support of the Mujahideen and small hit and run engagements with Stingers, anti-tank and anti-personnel weapons, Russia was brought to there knees and pull out a defeated "Super Power". DID THEY LEARN NOTHING? Some of your video footage looks likes out takes from the movie "Charlie Wilson War" a few years ago. Loved your analysis, and background information on NATO. It seems that we have continually overestimated the capabilities of the Russian forces. Even in the Eisenhower administration, and then with Sputnik we were way off on our intelligence, possibly willfully to support our own military industrial complex. It was not until we established our satellite "spies in the sky system", and with Reagan calling their bluff that the USSR had to fold their hand. The Russians simply lack the GDP to support and compete with the US. Their one ace in the hole is their nukes. If not for the civilian casualties, I would like to see their forces cut off and destroyed in place in Ukraine.

Reagan's policies maneuvered the Soviets (yes, run by Russia) to expend precious and scant resources in order to try to keep up with us. Yes, they created a couple of wonder prototypical weapons and platforms, but not en masse fielding materiel. They ran themselves broke. We need to remember this lesson when looking at the Sino and Russian arsenals. We made real progress in weapons development that the Soviets couldn't keep up with. Let's not run ourselves ragged trying to keep up with BS Chinese magic dragon systems. Concern where concern is due, leave the pie in the sky stuff to the CoD players.

The reason the tanks are all on the roads is because of the mud, the rasputitsa. You would think Russia of all things would understand the spring mud. That really says their plan, if they ever had one, was to show the flag and expect Ukraine to just collapse. I personally don't think Russia can keep this up much longer. Maybe a couple more weeks. Other countries that have territorial disputes with Russia, like Georgia or maybe even Japan, may use this war to their advantage. Maybe the Chechens will revolt again.

Thanks so much for your levelheaded and unemotional report. I was born in PL, lived in the US 90% of my life, and now live in western PL again. I completely agree with your assessment of the no-fly zone. Emotionally, I want it bad. But let's be real. Really glad I am not the one having to make that ice-cold call. The one thing that is not covered when talking about why the initial invasion was so inept is the effect of this being a "secret war," in Russia. Putin never declared a war, using the word is actually banned in Russia when talking about Ukraine. This likely had material effects on Putin's deployment options. Think Laos/Cambodia for the USA during the Vietnam war. US options were very limited there because it was a "secret war." For what it's worth, there are plenty of recordings of captured Russian reserve kids saying they were only told that they were on exercises.

Very interesting comments Scott. The only thing that i would say that was different from other wars this time around is internet communication . I don’t think there has ever been a situation where a leader of a country like Ukraine has addressed the American congress. As to whether this makes a difference….who knows. I like watching the car crash videos on KZbin and one thing that is apparent is that in both Russia and China there are new highways and many new cars, mostly built in other countries. So though the oligarchs in both countries have been accumulating a lot of wealth, some of the populace of both countries have been accumulating some i guess as a result of trickle down. So to have that interfered with is another unknown factor. And of course the other unknown factor is how omicron which is getting widespread in china is going to interrupt supply chains with the major lockdowns they are doing there right now. There is so much world interaction things are going to be very interesting. Thanks for your comments

I have seen artillery attacking Russian isolated units in the woods, there are few secret places without leaves on the trees. They had drone footage, I suspect being used as spotters, for the artillery attacks, which may be some of the most effective air power of the war. It probably is one of these military drones, though a $100 Amazon drone probably could do the same spotting duty for artillery. Russia does not have enough troops for their perimeter so their troops are in the most part in isolation other than at contact fronts. My opinion is Russia will pull back to the boarder because they are losing too many vehicles and the troops will not do a Stalingrad house to house, they would surrender first, so the war is over when they run out of vehicles. Once that happens if the Ukrainians want it, the US should treat them as they treated the corrupt Afgans for years, I think it would pay off creating a Ukraine force that is too strong for Putin to think of attacking. The threat to the US is not threats from Putin as we improve Ukraine's military, it is having Ukraine with a mediocre military that Putin thinks he can reload and attack again. You want to leave Putin only 2 choices nuclear annihilation or nothing, leaving a feasible middle ground of attacking a weak country could lead to WW3 as we have seen in this attack and Crimea. They should be made strong enough to retake that territory from separatist and anything the Russian hold eventually. This is the front line with Russia and to leave it weak and pathetic because you are afraid of Putin will lead to another attack and more real danger.

@nancychace86192 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for sharing your sage perspective. I had to watch it twice. I know there must be a great many people who want things to get better but are at a loss as to what to do about it. This war has presented some tough calls, such as whether or not to do a no fly zone. It's a little confusing why Zelenskyy is asking so strongly to close the sky if the current situation is somewhat of a stalemate. Yet the Russians continue to pound civilian areas and commit atrocities. Every day counts. To sit idly by as Ukraine burns and God knows who is next seems a fool's errand, but the thought of sending our kids in to begin WWIII is equally horrific. Imo Putin's reasons for war go much further than Ukraine. He is on a power trip paralleled by very little in the course of human history. Given the unforseen circumstances of the current state of affairs - thank God- he is unable to follow through on his ill-begotten action. What he is doing will prove unsustainable in the long run. He's precluding too many people from fulfilling their potential, even on a good day before this all started. I just hope it won't be too late - I tried to briefly review what happened with Libya. I wonder also what about Kosovo? I agree the humanitarian side of the story looks bad. The whole world will have to pull extra freight on this one. The Ukrainians have become refugees overnight through absolutely no fault of their own. It's important for us to help them. It makes me appreciate all the more each day of peace and the freedoms I have known over the years. Thanks again, Scott.

Thank you for giving us a glimpse into how weapons of war work. And how they don't. I understand the basics of physics. The basics of politics eludes me, so thanks for your insight into NATO and the UN. I understand that NATO doesn't want to provoke Putin. NATO, the US, and others didn't want to give Putin any reason to invade Ukraine, so no sanctions until after. For Putin, it seems he wants provocation. But he'll happily invade, target civilians if the provocations don' meet his timeline. Now, the west does not want to provoke Putin to unleash nuclear hell. I understand that, but does delaying sanctions, slowing increased sanctions, telling Putin that there will be a high cost for further escalation work with Putin? Will delaying a no fly zone or denying aircraft to Ukraine make him afraid to pull the nuclear trigger???
@FlyWirescottperdue2 жыл бұрын
Putin is obviously not afraid the threaten to use nukes. He is using the threat as a backstop. I doubt he'll use them in Ukraine. About the only thing he US president has been right about is that it will take months for Sanctions to have any effect. the best thing we can do for Ukraine is to supply them with Air Defense and Anit-tank weapons. And humanitarian aide. I think the answer to your final question is doing it or not doing it will have no effect. Essentially, there is a no-fly zone over Ukraine right now.
@beachbum779792 жыл бұрын
@@FlyWirescottperdue Well again, I thank you. Having never studied war myself, I know very little about it. And the people I've known that have served and sacrificed in war don't talk to me about it much. They know that I can never understand. And so I'm in no position to understand the real world as it is. I see a lot of enemy tanks all lined up in a row and I think, isn't that what A10s are for? I see the humanitarian crises now. I don't see how the people in eastern cities can survive without food, water electricity or way to escape. As you said, starvation happens fast. I too see no way Russia can occupy Ukraine. Insufficient resources. So flattening everything is the only way for Putin to "win". What do you think the chances of a coup in Russia are. That seems to me like the quickest and most humane way for this to end. Thanks again Scott. It's good to hear from someone that actually knows what goes on as opposed to someone that studied how to get shocking ratings in two minutes or less. I have many bad feelings about how this war came about and how it most likely could have been avoided with some honest diplomacy, but with that said, if they let me be in charge (and they really should) I would draw a line north to south somewhere in ukraine and move in with air power to protect lviv from being turned to rubble. I would warn putin that if they fire into that area, there will be return fire. So, i would put a no fly, no artillery zone covering the western quarter of ukraine. Call it a humanitarian disaster relief/prevention action.
