The reason it seems that players "learn" is that generally speaking, high dirtiness players will get booked while low dirtiness players remain.

As for the overall conclusion with teams underperforming their xG, this has always been a known issue with the FM match engine. Specifically, that absolute sitters have a low chance of scoring (at least relatively speaking), while long shots usually have a better chance at scoring than they should have. This throws xG out of whack, as it means that working your way into the box will lead to bigger chances (which underperform in xG), while shooting on sight overperforms xG. With worse defenders in play, it's easier to get those easy chances, but the match engine doesn't favour them.

Your build a nation database setup video from last/couple of years ago should be a MUST WATCH for every fm player. 20 year veteran that plays with attribute masking and it breathes a new life into the game. I also found out that by getting players on trial for 3-4 weeks(as opposed to the 1 needed for ur own scouting) gets other teams in your nation scouting on them too ( they begin to wanna sign them on frees etc) . Its super time consuming and fun. MTK Budapest is actually a great starting point if u wanna do this. League competition being nonexistant kills it for me after a few UCL wins , so I think Portugal may be the play tho! I had a Sporting save on fm20 where Benfica beat me in the UCL final and i did none of this build a nation stuff!

It could be, and just that FM isn't expecting that amount of turnover so the cohesion hits even harder than expected

Could be interesting to take over a team and check the hierarchy, team cohesion and social groups. See how bad morale and squad happiness gets with all the upheaval.

25:28 i think you misunderstand the function of these statistics. xG is created by good attacking play. Hence good attacks will have high xG against poor defences. Whether a team performs above/below their xG is separate to this. My hypothesis is, that the higher the xG the higher the probability of performing below it. I couldn't tell you why. But my main point is, good attacks produce higher xG, but won't necessarily overperform that xG. (maybe, i have it, the higher the xG the harder it is to overperform. For example,if a team has 2 penalties, it's impossible to overperform xG by much, whereas if a team has one long shot all game, but score that chance, they've massively outperform their xG)
