I like to think I did. February 18, 1980. I grew up listening to everything my dad loved, 60s and 70s, then grew up hearing the 80s, I still love a lot of the 80s, but then I got the 90s as a teen. I love the 60s-80s, but man were the 90s wild. Probably comparable to kids born in 60 reaching the late 60s. But all I can say is todays music sucks

In southern Maryland…Charles County…. Literally 50 years ago…. 1973… We were tadpoles, kittens and puppies… baby fur and bright naive eyes…. Trinity Lake….. and another place… immediately across the street from what was then “Charles County Community College” there was “Mount Carmel Monastery” ( there really was (is?) a group of cloistered nuns….. and below it…..a hidden field, a creek,…midnight… a full moon illuminating the field and the dense mist that laid thick but only a foot or two deep….a friend tripped a fell and disappeared into that mist…. It was so joyful … the mystic world ahead of us….and in the woods …. Trees so old that THREE of us finger tips to finger tips stretched… around the tree trunk….. we couldn’t reach each other…. The silent creek un disturbed since before Gollum … The last of those old magic places …that were real for us….existed in JRR Tolkien’s dreams…. And in YES, and ELP… Paul Winter and Oregon Consort…Icarus Ground Ground. And Even Jethro Tull … filthy fingers smearing shabby clothes… (music wasn’t only about hormones, reproduction… nor hate)… For us songs expressed our brand new perspectives.. all energy, optimism and joy… before our hearts were thickened .. Fortunate Son… and Helter Skelter…. Hard Rain Fallin and Sound df Silence .. they weren’t yet real… the Year 2525….. only scary stories. Another place …. where the new Washington football stadium is..now…. In the sixties… farm fields …tobacco and beans… I know… this… I walked in those fields. And dirt roads …. Now myths… And when our lights dim… the wine all drunk… the songs all sung …the camp fires mellow into embers… and then cool…. Tolkien , Anderson and Anderson … Greg Lake… will remember our tales and treks. I do so pray for the new dreamers….that music and holy memories and good warm happy mystic places …. They find them too.. and they remember warm embers with dear friends Your Move

Chris Squire's harmonica part at 07:50 makes me tear up really bad. This song is way too good. I can't thank my dad enough for introducing me to Yes.

In their minds, I believe they wanted to be that perfect transition between Classical Music and modern Day Rock! In my mind they succeeded beyond any other current day band. Jethro Tull used classical movements in his songs , but fits more into folk rock than classical rock. Yes is unparalleled as a Classical Rock group!

LOTS OF ROCK AND ESPECIALLY NEW WAVE MUSIC IS FILLED WITH SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES AND PROPHECY FROM GOD/CHRIST AIMED AT THE DEVIL AND THE FALLEN ANGELS AND ALL WHO FOLLOW THEM. BLACK SABBATH'S "WAR PIGS" IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF GOD/CHRIST'S WORK. THIS SONG AND THE MANNER OF WHICH IT IS WRITTEN IN, SCREAMS THE ALMIGHTY GOD WHO IS CHRIST. Acts 2:17-21 New King James Version (NKJV) 17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. 21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’

I have to give Jon credit for his vocals. He doesn't get lazy and flatten the delivery. He hits his notes with energy and clarity.

Jon's still able to reach those notes because his voice has always been in a higher register than many other singers. As we get older, our voices just don't have that range anymore. ;-)

Beautiful, it has been a long time since I have heard YES. They are timeless. I was a teen when I first heard YES. It was as if they were talking to me about how I felt at the time. It feels that they are still talking to me after 44 years. Time may be moving, but this music takes me back . . . back home to a time when I was free, free of burdens, free to express myself without having to justify my actions. Making love just for the fun of it. Hanging out with good friends, drinking a beer and smoking a joint while sitting in the dark listening to YES on the record player. Those were good times.

I graduated HS in ‘76. When I heard Jon sing thing song, it was like a religious experience and I wasn’t too religious in the 70’s 😂. It was rock orchestra and this band was on a higher plane than all the rest. The sad thing was most all of us guys could not sing along with Jon and his perfect pitch and octave or two higher. 🤟. He was given a vocal gift. 👍

Close To The Edge is easily my favorite Yes album. I bought it in high school back in the 70’s and played it a zillion times, memorizing every note. There are parts on that album that I thought were improvisation that I later learned were written parts. What brilliance! Sorry to say that I only saw them once as a group, back around 1975 in Colt Park, Hartford.

Imagine my surprise when a Polish barmaid at my local pub mentioned one day that she used to be in a symphony orchestra and toured with Yes. I couldn't believe it! She said she loved the experience and everyone was so nice - especially Chris Squire. Every time I watch this and other videos of the concert I'm always looking for her and I do spot her there. It's quite surreal.

@E Pluribus Unum I don't see her regularly anymore, only on the odd occasion if I happen to see her in town. I would imagine the songs were rehearsed to perfection otherwise it wouldn't work. It may look like Yes are improvising, which they may do sometimes, but on the whole, I reckon everyone knew exactly where they were.
