This is an important video and category. "Best out the box". Some people dont have the money to put a new everything on a firearm. A lot of people just want a gun they can shoot at the range, carry, and keep on the nightstand and not spend 800$-1000$ bc of upgrades
@proguninc40805 жыл бұрын
Most guns DON'T NEED upgrades. The people who feel the need to constantly add something to their gun are usually people who have no training. And in those rare cases of people who DO have training but STILL like to modify their guns.... they honestly want to just DO SOMETHING to their gun. 🙄 They don't HAVE TO, they just WANT TO.

I have an FN 509 midsize 9mm and I can tell you, I’ve spent way more for guns that needed a trigger, sights and grip to try and make it feel and shoot like my 509. FN hit it out the park with the midsize 509, and he’s right about it being better than the full size 509. FN tweaked the little things from last years full-size 509 and made the perfect striker fire handgun in my opinion. I put my glock down for the first time in over 20yrs to carry this 509.
@eddierivera29085 жыл бұрын
James Green What did they tweak from the larger version?
@jamesgreen99545 жыл бұрын
Eddie Rivera Besides the FN 509 midsize being just the right size, not as tiny as most CC handguns and not as big as the full size. The mag release is also very easy to access and even tho it’s in the same place as the early FN 509 models, the cutout around the mag release button is slightly different on the newer midsize & fullsize and everyone I’ve talked to likes it better, it also makes it easier to drop the mag but not so easy you dump the mag by accident. The 3 different grip straps will fit about any hand I would think and the mag holds 15rds double stacked in 9mm with one more in the chamber and this mag capacity is different in certain states. The trigger on mine breaks very clean, resets nice and gets even better after running a few hundred rounds thru the gun. Go into your local shop and hold one in your hand and check it out, you’ll see what I mean, you won’t be disappointed. Very nice handgun straight out the box. This guy gives a good complete review and also check out Hikock 45s review of the FN 509 midsize.👍
@eddierivera29085 жыл бұрын
James Green James thank you much. I did watch both prior to asking and also had one in hand but wanted to do some research and ran into hickok mentioning different versions which lead to my question. I couldnt find any videos discussing anything about changes. (With exception to Hickok) I also saw one guy mention different springs as well so before I try and take advantage of the deal offered, I wanted to educate myself as much as possible. Thanks again and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoyed your review. FN, the most battle proven firearms company in the world. This is virtually identical to the FN 509 with a magazine having 2 fewer rounds. FN makes an excellent handgun. The 509 Midsize is everything you say and more. I just traded for one at my LGS, and have been to the range with it now twice, and run around 200-250 rounds through it. The 509 Midsize runs without a flaw. It's accurate, easy to control, comfortable in the hand, and the trigger is great. I've had the FNS 40 and the FNS 9L, also great handguns and available at incredible discounts online.
@drmitofit26733 жыл бұрын
The local gun shop only had one 509 midsize in stock and it had a mildly gritty trigger, but I took a chance and bought it, thinking I could fix it. All it needed was a field strip and light polishing of top of the triangle piece that contacts the firing pin block, which is the same trick I have used to smooth out M&P trigger pulls. So mine wasn't perfect out of the box but it was easily fixed and everything else such as the grip, ambi controls, build quality, and trigger weight and reset were excellent.

Looking at how long it's been happening, I couldn't feel comfortable enough to buy one. So I ended up going with something else. The 509 was what I really wanted though. Just couldn't get past the striker issue. Sure, they're standing behind it with a warranty replacement, but that doesn't do any good when it fails during a self defense moment. They need to do a recall and fix it right. Only option is to dump another $50 on an Apex striker.

@@Quality_Guru "You can't dry fire the FN 509." This might be the stupidest comment that I have ever read. All centerfire guns are fine to dry fire. The factory recommends that if you plan on excessively dry firing, using snapcaps. The only thing that you shouldn't dry fire is rimefire guns.

Still saving for a shadow 2, and FN has to go and drop this on the market. Too many guns, not enough $$$. Great review!

Zack Walsh Just save for the shadow 2. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve bought and sold the shadow 2 twice. I don’t compete but love how great it shoots. I’m going all in on a TSO so no need for a shadow 2 for me.

You don’t need to do anything...except the firing pin. My 509 Tactical pin broke and I haven’t even shoot one round. So Apex is a must. Great video as usual.

Idk how common is this problem for the fns series. I have never had that happen.

3 17 rd d magazines came with the FN 509 I purchased in 2021. Shot very well out of the box. Trigger seems a little "crunchy" to me, but I too am a 1911 guy. I have an assortment of Glocks in every caliber except 10mm and 22lr.....never have "loved" any of them. I think once I run 1000 rounds through this 509 I will be hard pressed to carry any of my glocks routinely again.

I've ran 1500 rounds so far through my 509 Midsize MRD (Optics ready version) and I have had litteraly ZERO malfunctions at all. Even with about 500 cheap surplus steel case 9mm run through it. Not one. It's my EDC and I would honestly trust it with my life in a pinch. It's that reliable
@mikethompson22753 жыл бұрын
The size and weight of the gun are good the trigger is good enough to shoot with price is decent as long as its reliable and doesn't fail to run smoothly the fit size and weight are good.

Striker broke on mine after 250ish rounds. I like my FNS 9 a little more, no issues with 2k rounds. Picked up a CZ p10c OR last week with all the upgrades and a RMR cut for $500. Seems the way to go when they are more widely available this summer.

I went to a local gun store looking for a 9mm glock and ended up buying this thinking it was a glock lol. It's my first gun and I'm not disappointed.

My vote now goes to the Polymer80 PFC9. Just got it last week and I’m already considering buying more to make it my home “system” defense gun. Second place, for me, goes to the Sig P365XL. For me, the PFC9 feels right, shoots right and is just an all around joy. We’ll see how it does over time. I had an FNS9 that I really, REALLY wanted to like but it’s one of those pistols that I just couldn’t quite effectively reach the trigger on. I handled a 509 when they came out and it didn’t really feel much different so I never “pulled the trigger” on purchasing one. I’m the flip side of the “huge bear paws” coin.

Couldn’t help but notice the weak trigger return spring when I was looking at one in my local gun store. I was checking the reset and it felt like it didn’t want to go back foward
@k9offroad3 жыл бұрын
I noticed the same thing. I think it resets once you rack the slide. Like it was made to do that on purpose. Gonna take to the range soon and see for myself

Does it come with true night sights, or are they more the glow in the dark phospho luminescent type, that you might get on HK for example?

What about the water test? Also what about the 1,000 round review for this particular gun ( the 509 MRD ) I've been told and I've looked up the reliability test and it failed the water test do to the firing pin failing to fire. Can you do a review like that on this gun and ways to improve it?
@KennyRodgers9302 жыл бұрын
Water? It works just fine in a downpour (I've shoot it in one) and if you're a Navy Seal about to conduct an Over The Beach assault, give it a shake and it'll fire just fine.

I don’t always rack my slide with my clothes but when I do I use my zipper 😂. Looks like a fantastic pistol I will have to test one out when I get a chance. I love my Glocks and CZ’s have not looked into FN very much but at that price point and features looks like a great option.
