Where you hide from a relatively constant enemy and a few enviromental threats, while looking for objects that belong in other places. Little quests like giving and object to an npc, finding a key. Wikipedia describes it as a survival horror point and click adventure. And Fnaf 1 is a survival horror point and click game. Clock Tower was released in the Super Famicon (Japanese Super Nintendo). So it check's out that it could have been a reference point.
