It's a Nostalgic thing. Plenty of people remember opening packs as kids and opening them now as adults (with a backbone of vintage cards being valuable) is seen as worthwhile and entertaining.

I've been on and off collecting trying to complete the National Pokedex, it's been a pretty fun time. I haven't actually taken the time to count but I'd say I have roughly 65-70% of the National Pokedex in Pokemon cards.

Same, I've been trying to complete the entire National Dex while also getting particular alternate art pokemon cards that I like. My most recent and favorite is the alternate art Dragonite V from the Evolving Skies expansion and it looks incredible. The 5 alternate arts I'm currently looking for is the Tyranitar V from the Battle styles expansion, the Zeraora V and Galarian Articuno V from the Chilling Reigns expansion, and the Charizard V and Arceus V from the Brilliant Stars expansion.
