Shadow and then Jackie visited the nest just after sunset. It seemed they may be bidding farewell to their eggs after a very long post-viability period. They ended the evening roosting together and in song. Both a heartbreaking and heartwarming process that we are grateful to have been able to observe.

This brought tears to my eyes. An eagle funeral for their eggs, singing a song of mourning…. Going forward as a couple, loyal to each other for life, loving each other unconditionally. My heart hurts for them, yet I know they will go forward. Maybe next year, sweet birds. ❤

I didn’t hear a song playing….. It seems that those in the know….believe these eggs not being viable have no effect on J and S! All instinct. I’m not sure where it says eagles do things instinctually void of the emotions we as humans experience. What I’ve witnessed over these weeks is text book emotion attached. From everything I have witnessed and being a grief counsellor I disagree. All the stages of grief, I have witnessed these 2 go through the different grief grieving process. How do they cover up these babies eggs without it being so evident the grieving they are doing?!!!! The whole thing from the nurturing and incubating , their parental protection in full stride caring for the eggs and each other. To the coming to terms that the eggs didn’t become viable to watch the separate ways for each, to come to terms. I mean seeing each of them staring out the unhatched eggs they show a deeper connection to their eggs not hatching….just to me can see these past couple of days a connection as each stand, stare, moving both eggs and sticks around to what looks like last protective act of covering them to try to keep intruders away. How do ‘they’ know that these parents aren’t feeling anything emotional?! Seriously?! Do scholars speak ‘eaglette’? Have they philosophised emotions don’t exist, only instinct? They are a wide open book on the differing stages of grief. What a pleasure it has been to watch J and S ….emotions raw and wide open. Thank you for providing me with this life effecting journey. This is why, I as an American citizen see the American Bald Eagle as a symbol of perseverance for every single American now facing the struggle of picking themselves back up to try, try again. I am fascinated and touched by Jackie returning to the nest to cover the 2 remaining eggs with nest bowl materials. It's now 11 pm and I just checked the live stream and the eggs are sill covered and neither J or S is in the nest. @@kimsplaylist8620 J just raised the surrounding branches and blocked the camera. If it's different in the recap, it's wrong and embarrassing. Eagles are not so intelligent that they use deliberate burying with a purpose, like crows and magpies bury food for later consumption. Eagles don't even have the instinct to bury something. Eggs are eaten by other animals, eagles don't even bother to throw the eggs away. When they took a break, they also didn't cover the eggs (although it can be assumed here that they let them cool down a bit) as blue tits do. Eagles can coverd eggs accidently when doing nest maintenance

This season did not produce eaglets, but watching the number of viewers climb well into the thousands, it clearly created a wider appreciation for this special couple and maybe for all bald eagles. That gives great hope for optimism for this remarkable species.

I find this video stunning! My eyes welled with tears. Quite different from last year when they left the eggs for the ravens. This year Jackie was very intentional in "burying" the eggs. For what reason I would love to know. And then flying off singing one of the most beautiful songs and duets I've heard from them. Truly amazing! I wish I understood what they are feeling. ❤ I'm new this year to the Shadow & Jackie cam and I think it was just amazing watching these two. It breaks my heart that their eggs didn't hatch. Am I reading this correctly that the same or similar thing happened last year & the eggs didn't hatch? But they have had broods. The love these two have for each other was just beautiful to watch!! A wonderful goodbye and closure, for birds or humans. And a beautiful impromptu duet. Eagles aren't known for their singing, but that was top notch in style, pitch, timing, and mood, for anybirdie. I'm glad she covered them up, gone, Shadow can forget. Now they can roost together again, and do all the things they do together in their paradise. They are more than a mated pair, they are best friends, and seldom apart for long. The bird version of soulmates. They don't have to have kids, they are complete. But I hope for next season. As the sun had set, it was so very amazing to see Jackie return and cover her eggs. Thank you for catching that most tender moment and of course when Shadow had been there earlier. 😢 She then flew off in song to him in song and they slept in peace for the night. It was sad but very beautiful. They are quite a pair, one of the most loving pair I have watched. God Bless you Fobby Friends. We hope to see their return next year. This was my first year watching Jackie and Shadow and I have now grown attached! I have watched every day, had it on TV on the weekends and on my computer at work. I am going to miss them along with the beautiful scenery and calming nature sounds. Thank you to all those that manned the the camera 24/7 and gave us those amazing closeups. Just breaks my heart for Jackie and Shadow, praying next mating will have a better out come. We have Eagles where I live here in Virginia and we so enjoy watching them. I know we have at least 4 that we have seen, not sure where the nest are but have an idea as we watch them fly into the trees. Such an absolute joy watching and hearing them, as with all the birds , ducks , herons, egrets and geese makes the days little brighter with all the wild life. Wishing the best for Jackie & Shadow❤
