When Twilight started leading up to the importance of the cucumber sandwiches in the water I thought the reveal was going to be a kappa in the water. The kappa is a Japanese water demon which, according to legend, is extremely fond of cucumbers. So that twist would have made perfect sense. The bunyip is an Australian monster, and, as far as I know, has no connection with cucumbers at all. I have no idea why they went with the wrong type of monster.

LORE TIME AND THE REASON I HATE THAT EPISODE the bunyip is an Australian mythological creature. it's name translates to evil Spirit. the bunyip is found in swamps and billabongs (translation Ox bow Lakes) not the sea. the bunyip is also a carnivore that was believed to take down anyone fishing in their home. they aren't cute and they don't eat cucumbers. just cause the name sound cute doesn't mean it is. so in short the Bunyip isn't a sea monster and isn't a herbivore. Sorry it's just I'm from Australia and the bunyip is my favourite mythological creature.

What I like about this episode is that the whole time it was a Bunyip who was the culprit. A cryptid! The Bunyip is a cryptid that lives in the swamps, creeks, rivers, etc of South-Eastern Australia. Its name means Evil Spirit or Devil. And ironic about this creature is that it mainly eats livestock, women, and children that get to close to its territory or, strangely enough, just at night to hunt. The monster itself has many different forms in different stories, but probably the most recognizable one is its appearance as a prehistoric creature called the Diprotodon. It's first sighting was in 1818 but came to a stop at 1852. To have MLP so a Bunyip in one episode not one made me excited but it gave me the idea that there could possibly be more crypids in the MLP world. Yeti, Bigfoot, Ropen, Nessie, Mokele-Mbembe, the freaking Thunderbird, or even the Jersey Devil! The possibilities are endless!

The sandwiches were the connection and strange as it may be there could be evidence of cucumbers existing underwater. The movie introduced us to hippogriffs that moved their entire kingdom under the sea to escape danger. It never suggests how long they were down there, but implied that it was a while based on the Princess's story so it's entirely possible that with their powerful magic they were able to figure out a way to grow their crops underwater while also adapting them enough to grow correctly. Maybe I'm overthinking it but that's my theory.

I'll give you the bunyip one since a BOATLOAD of people have said the same, but I will say unreliable narrator is quite different from rashomon, and is far more broad. You wouldn't call Joker a rashomon story because it's told from one perspective, yet Arthur is VERY much an unreliable narrator. The reverse is true of Hoodwinked!, because while the stories between the 4 protagonists are very different, you can't really call them unreliable narrators in Hoodwinked because their stories are more or less the truth, in the end. Unless they're going into the absolute extreme with their stories, they're not as unreliable as they may seem. It's less about the reliability of the narrator and more about said narrator's *perspective* . To my memory the only rashomon story I can think of that does combine unreliable narrator and rashomon like you suggest is... the episode above. So, I guess you're kinda right, too
