No comments on how Applejack had to admit she lied in order to tell the truth? Seriously, (no pun intended) that was the wham moment for me. She is someone who values her reputation highly, and for her to sacrifice it for the greater good is such a great bit of development for her.

"Just because something makes you happy doesn't mean it's a good idea." I gotta agree with Josh. That is an awesome moral to teach. Actually, now that I think about it, my niece really needs to learn this.

Regarding "but we love eachother": sometimes, even if you know better, you have to let people make their own mistakes and just be there to catch them when they fall. It's *very* easy to say the wrong thing and burn a bridge forever when you try to separate people you feel shouldn't be together, and even if they eventually come to the same conclusion and break it off on their own they still won't want to be your friend ever again anyway. The exception to this is when abuse is involved; then you should actively work to stop it no matter what.

The song from this episode might not have been as catchy as the first Flim Flam Brothers song, but I still have the first chorus from this one stuck in my head. "Luckily for you, we've got the thing you need And it's easier when all you need's the cure The Flim Flam Miracle Curative Tonic Is just what the doctor ordered, I'm sure!" Seriously, I've been singing that for almost three straight days. XP

I have to agree with moral. It's really amazing that they managed to teach something like this in a little girl's tv show. A lot of people use the "it makes me feel good" or "it's hurting anyone[as far as they can see]" excuse to do things that they may not realize will hurt them/others in the long run. I appreciate seeing a message like this in today's media.

haber is actually one of my favorite comedy writers on the show.. the synchronized swimming segment was one of the few times i've actually laughed OUT LOUD this season.. granted, he's not an animator, but the camp writing style in his episodes has consistently given the animators hilarious material to inspire them this season..

did you notice the rainbow shimmer in her eyes? i'm noticing a pattern, because that one episode when RD was doing those flying race qualifications, her loyalty was being tested, and then her eyes also had a rainbow shimmer, then she realized that she was copping out of being loyal. i expect to see more of this with other characters :-)

(Yay, Song of Healing!) Great review, I'm glad you like this episode for the same reasons I did. Tommy Oliver didn't seem very interested in it at all. :( I was also really saddened to see all those sick/handicapped ponies. Equestria is appealing because of how happy everyone seems, but knowing ponies can be sick without any apparent cure is a downer.

I nerded out a bit when you put in Ezio's theme in the end. Good job, Josh. Yeah I thought it was a good episode considering I'm not a fan of AJ. The new pony who was in on the act was voiced by Ian Corlett, Claire's (Sweetie Belle) father. He's also the voice of the ocean dubbed Goku from DBZ. Pretty neato if you ask me. :)

Gotta agree this season some of the morals are just getting better. Fluttershy's in "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies", the moral in "Maud Pie", the moral here are ones that even the older audience can learn from. My only gripe is that the resolution seemed to come way to fast and way to close to the end. But that's probably just a nitpick. Awesome vid as always.

Actually, the placebo effect isn't limited to fake aches and pains. Real pain can actually be reduced in patients by giving them a placebo pill (containing only, say, sugar) instead of something like aspirin. It works on pain because pain is partially a mental phenomenon, not purely a physical phenomenon (I could be wrong about the reason, though; I didn't check it...).
@dbzaxel992
@dbzaxel992 10 жыл бұрын
You're right a lot of pain and inflammation is part of the bodies response to illness rather the illness itself which the mind can override eg minor pain like tooth removal can quite often replace a real sedative with a placebo injection and get the same results. Perception can do strange things there's being studies where fake alcohol caused inebriation and a genuine reduction in scores on IQ tests. You can even measure responses to placebos with injections having more powerful effect because we inherently belief that they're a more effective cure. There's also nocebos where a belief that a cure won't work can cause a deterioration in the individual's condition.

It would've been better if they used a different pony than Granny Smith though because she's elderly and disabled so using her as the tonic tester was a bit of a weak example. If they used like a cousin of Applejack or somepony related to her that wasn't direct family it would make sense that she would want them happy because they're relatives, but she also isn't DIRECTLY related to them so she can't act like the big sister and tell them what to do. Also a cousin from another town would've been better because they wouldn't KNOW the Flim Flam brothers so it's more believable that they fall for the scam. Granny knows the brothers already so it makes no sense that she buys into the scam, especially without much persuasion. So Granny Smith was a poor choice for this episode but I did kind of enjoy getting to see more of her, it's just they incorporated it into the wrong kind of episode.

I disagree the episode showed very well that Granny's fear of swimming was psychological. She just needed the confidence boost to over come her phantom pains. However from our previous knowledge of her health,we know she isn't invincible and behaving recklessly will seriously injure or kill her. Plus having a direct family member of AJ and Applebloom increases the audiences desire for Granny to overcome her fear and be able to interact with Applebloom. As for trusting Flim Flam, remember that they weren't really bad guys in their last encounter. They were just over-oportunistic salesponies whose interests clashed with the Apple. Plus None of our ponies really know how to hold a grudge so...

I too love the moral of this episode: Speaking the truth even though it will end a certain happiness. Because in the end, the truth is above all else. However I did see Silver Quill's ATF video on this episode and how another analyst, Mage, focused more on the message of how Granny Smith was a terrible character to use in the episode, because it would send out a horrible message to senior citizens that they can go wild and won't get hurt and won't have any diseases. That's not what we should take from this episode. We should take the moral and see that helping people realize the truth is more important than feeding them lies just to make them happy. Even if the truth hurts, it won't hurt as much as the consequences of the lie.

***** Josh, I do not know how you did it but you just helped me again on the newest episode. I only saw "Leap of Faith" as a "meh" episode or a "good" episode. main reason why I thought it was a meh or a good episode is cause only the moral, Applejack having conflict that can actually help her character, and from how the characters interact in the episode were good enough. but I hated the fact that the Flim Flam Brothers are not gonna stop with their lies and starting being truthful. and what is worse is that I saw from while talking to Applejack that they look like they were blackmailing her to make the conflict. but thanks to you Josh, I can see why it was worth it since you said words that helped me out in this too serious review. so thanks for clearing things up, and you are still my number 1 reviewer.
