The Fw 200 Condor was intended for civil mid- and longrange fligts (1930´s specification) in Europe, replacing the ageing Junkers Ju-52 in this sector. Standard range was 1500 km / 932 miles. Launch customer was Lufthansa, with some other customers in Denmark, Finland and Brasil. A military reconnaissacence version was ordered by Japan. Prototype did demonstration flight with extra fuel tanks in the cabin, nonstop Berlin Tempelhof to New York Floyd Bennett Field. Same aircraft did flight to Tokyo, but with 3 fuel stops. The aircraft in Berlin was a military C-3 version for armed longrange reconnaissance with a range of about 4500 km / 2800 mi. Typical route would be Norway up to Island, or Norway to France (passing west of Great Britain over the northern atlantic).
