I wanted to let you know that I finally upgraded my 2014 Ford ST, one year after watching this video. I did an intercooler, scoop, cold air intake, rear motor mount, sound symposium delete, cat-back exhaust, frpp cold spark plugs, and an access port ST3. It took my brother and me 3 days to complete the upgrades but it was worth it. My next upgrade will be the catch oil can. Hopefully, it will be soon. Thank you for your advice and your encouragement. Good luck with your ST👍.

Precision I highly recommend getting something like an accessport or something that you can tune the car with. I’d say that is the most important modification you can make. As you modify your car you can keep in contact with a tuner that will change the parameters for every modification you install therefore getting as much efficiency out of your modifications.

Update!!! My stock turbo stop working yesterday. The car runs but obviously without the power. I'm in the process of purchasing a bigger turbo. I'm going with the GT 3071R .64 TURBINE HOUSING 480 HP from CJ PONY. I decided to also upgrade the downpipe with a Cobb 3in stainless steel with catalytic converter and place an oil catch can in the car. My question is, HOW LONG CAN I DRIVE MY CAR WITHOUT THE TURBO NOT WORKING? I don't want to mess up my engine before I'm able to procure the parts and get them installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Valley Crew Racing

Pretty much every ST should have: FMIC, downpipe/exhaust, air filter. Thats it besides the Tuner obviously...for the stock turbos anyways. But the one thing I did not notice you mention was the clutch... are you still running the stock clutch/flywheel/axles/etc? That factory clutch has got to be close to its limits at 350-400fwhp... looks good, exhaust sound isnt my cup of tea as I like a more throaty/muscle sound with some crackles/pops, but it definitely makes a statement coming and going :D nice car man, thanks for the video!

Very informative i am actually considering that same turbo for my focus st. I know that a big part of reliability when going big turbo with any car is the tune but how has the st treated now that you are big turbo making more power. I am hopping to make around 375hp and 340wtq.
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
YHG Shoota With the bigger turbo the car is much more fun and surprisingly responsive still! The reliability, as you would imagine, naturally lessens because you’re putting more strain on the engine components. I personally have not encountered any serious issues besides the exhaust leak I talk about in this video. The car runs great and I’m creeping up on 80k miles. Still gold boost and she pulls hard haha. Driver habits come into play as well. If you are abusing the car then you will definitely have reliability issues which is why I am building another engine so I can abuse it on the track.

In the middle of my Stage 3 build with stock turbo, down pipe with a 200 cell cat with a custom welded 4 inch or so defouler was my first mod. Then rear boomba motor mounts was the way to go after that for me. Perfomance wise I just put on my Vortec FMIC and I'm getting my AP this week to make everything happy. Because I’m about to get a DP soon and wounder if I should go catted or not. But obviously your car set up is my goal in the next 2 years or so....Either sick set up bro, can you run that fuel system even on non big turbo STs and notice a difference?
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
Luke Luna You won’t really get the full effect if you install the aux fuel with the smaller turbo. All it will be doing really is helping clean your valves. Without the extra airflow that a big turbo can deliver, you won’t really see a benefit, besides valve cleaning, with the aux fuel setup. As for the downpipe, if you don’t plan on keeping it a street car, go catless, but if it’s a daily driven car then catted downpipe is safest. I’ve been driving without a cat for years but it’s a very risky game and it’s up to you if you wanna play haha

Would you suggest an aux fuel system or just upgraded fuel injectors? I used to have a GTI and all you need fuel wise for a similar size turbo to the gtx2867R is upgraded injectors. My ST has intake, Cobb exhaust, a velossatech ram-air and a turbosmart bov. Looking at grabbing a front mount, maybe an oil cooler and one of those fuel options. Just looking to get to that like 330-350 whp sweet spot, not trying to beat everything out there ya know. Oh also what was the break in period you did for the turbo? 1,000 miles? Also with the accessport can you add like different tunes? Like a closer to stock mid tier and high performance modes or whatever. Never used one so not sure. Also what size wheels and tires did you go for? Edit: finished watching video and saw the aux fuel part lmao.

Question, since you said you’ve ran a block off plate before. From the factory, the bpv has a vacuum like hose that hooks into it, if you pull out the bpv to put in a block off plate to put a bov into the actual plumbing, what do you do with that vacuum line...? Sorry if that’s a dumb question. I have a 2018 focus st
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Tinker That vacuum line then goes to the new external bov! Wherever you decide to mount the bov in the charge system is where that vacuum line will go.
@danieltinker6319
@danieltinker6319 6 жыл бұрын
VALLEY CREW alright so it seems that typically when people run an external bov in an st it’s driver side of the intercooler on an elbow, but the stock bpv is passenger side of the car, how does that work if I want to run an external bov? I currently have a boomba bov which just replaces the stock bpv but I’ve always loved the sounds of other actual bov’s. Newb her I’m sorry, this is my first turbo car but I’ve always had a love for them.
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Tinker You have to run the vacuum line from the boost solenoid on the top of the engine down to the new bov. You take out the entire factory hard line that goes to the oem bypass valve and run a rubber vacuum line from the solenoid to the new bov. We’ll do a video on it soon to give people a better idea

Also I have a boomba BOV, whats the difference between a BOV like that and the kind that gets installed on the charge pipes?
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
Nickolas Huling So, with water meth, to my knowledge it cannot be turned off at will. Your car will be tuned to run a specific amount of water meth and it should not be ran without it. It increases the octane of the fuel mixture and allows you to push more boost and keep the combustion chamber cool. If for some reason you turn it off on the same tune, you will greatly increase your chances of pre ignition which will lead to catastrophic engine failure... and to answer your other question, the main difference between the internal housing bov and the external bov is the fact that the internal bov will still recirculate around 50% of the charge air when you lift off of the throttle but the external will release 100% of the charge air. External is less efficient but you can create a recirculated system using an external bov which we plan on doing in the future!

One more question, is an internal BOV the same thing as an internal wastegate?
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
Nickolas Huling No. They are completely different. The bov controls where the charge air goes after you let off the accelerator and the wastegate controls the amount of exhaust gases that flow through the turbine (hot side of the turbo) to prevent over boosting and all the bad things that happen with that haha

Logan Torchick Oil in the combustion chamber lowers octane rating. If you have excessive oil in the combustion chamber your engine will be more prone to pre-ignition.

I'd like to ask though whenever it changes gears there's that whistle. Is it because of the turbo or the intake system. I've been wondering cause I heard some 2005 Subis STI that always pass by house. WHICH has similar sound when changing gears. Can someone explain it to me. I'm still new to the car scene learning bit by bit
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 6 жыл бұрын
Thato Soafo That is the HKS blow off valve releasing boost pressure when you let off of the throttle! That’s why when cars with aftermarket blow off valves let off the throttle it creates that rush of air sound!

Hey man, hopefully you respond to this as I need some insight. In a few weeks I’m taking my car to mountune to get a big turbo installed(their big turbo kit). I’m in Cali also so I’ll be sticking to 91. Besides an e30 tune, is there anything else I can do to up the power? I’m looking for around 360-400 whp, which I heard can be tough to do as I’m going to be running on 91
@tbr.performance
@tbr.performance 5 жыл бұрын
BaconKFilms Yeah, running 91 octane is a huge disadvantage when you’re trying to make reliable power. The only way you’ll be able to get to your goal is to switch to e30 and run auxiliary fueling. The car has direct injection limitations that unfortunately make it very difficult to make “big” power.
@BaconKFilms
@BaconKFilms 5 жыл бұрын
VALLEY CREW RACING yeah that’s what I figured. I’m just going to stick to the 6758 turbo kit mountune has to offer, with 91. They said it’d be almost if not just as fast as a focus RS on 91, so I’m content with that.

@@tbr.performance You don't need E30 or E-anthing to make such low power for the ST. 500-600 yes, 400 NO. You will want to invest in a water/meth system to up grade your gas octane to 96 and cool the combustion charge. Geeze my Fusion is making 412HP on 93, 2867R, Aux Fuel and Water/Meth.

@@BaconKFilmsI hope Im not too late.Why would you buy such a big ass turbo and not use it to its full potential? What a waste of $. Buy the 2867R, THE BREAD AND BUTTER TURBO FOR THE 2.0 ECOBOOST, and max it out for less. Besides the terrible ass lag this turbo has your not gonna feel the 53lbs/min up top because your tuner is going to pull timing for insufficient fuel. And that my friend you will feel. I can't believe Mountune would direct you in such an inefficient way.WOW. Do your homework on sites that know this stuff before you make this purchase

Johnny Butler I got the 6258a turbo, which is essentially the equivalent to the Garrett you suggested. The reason I was going to go with a bigger one was because I was planning on doing some real upgrades in the future for a lot more horsepower (forged internals, etc etc) however I decided against it. The turbo I’m using makes my st pull harder than an RS (in third gear at least), however that’s only when it pushes 26.5 psi of boost. Most of the time I only push 22-24 due to the heat out here in Cali

really enjoyed the video man, ive been a technician for 8 years, and just started selling mortgagees recently so i can afford to upgrade my ST. shes full bolt ons atm. but i was debating getting the same exact turbo as you, im making around 280-290WHP atm, ide like to have 360WHP with the new turbo and 93 octane fuel. i really dont wanna go any higher since i daily it. im shooting for this motor to last the life of the car, i do need to retune it. my air fuel ratio is dipping to 10.8 wide open. im not to keen on AF ratios but i thought around 11.3-11.9 was good for the ST. any thoughts on that?

TROLL LORD ZULU Awesome man! Thanks for commenting! Yeah, with our cars you don’t want to see the afr that low at wot, depending on the build, but typically for a road car that’s not the goal. The engine won’t be able to make efficient power running like that. At wot my afr likes to stay at 11.7-11.9 but I am running e30 and more boost. At wot, considering you won’t be pushing near 30 psi of boost, you won’t need to be near the 10 afr range.

EVERYONE goes with that turbo size...I'd definitely go with a bigger one and add injectors and fuel pump. Plus you need some suspension work and look into an lsd to put that power to the ground.
