I was having so much trouble getting the foil to adhere to the cardstock. You just solved my problem -- no carrier sheet! I am pretty new to this hobby (everyone over 70 needs to find a new interest) and you have proved to be a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much, Jennifer!

Just wanted to say this video is VERY helpful. I have been youtube'n all kinds of 'how to' and craft stuff lately.. its going on two weeks of non stop rabbit hole click-a-thons... and yours is the most clear, concise, straightforward forward, and helpful. The organization of it, the list of materials you provide.. everything. It's spectacular. Too many folks are wasting time, like to hear themselves speak, and just go on and on with bs.. NOT you. It is a ray of sunshine in a tedious yt world. thank you for your input here!

I was steered to this video after watching your current foiling technique video using stamps, clear embossing, and a laminator. All the card are just absolutely gorgeous Jennifer. I spend more time watching you show me how to do stuff than I actually implement the techniques. I keep buying all the stamps, dies, inks, powders, etc. and don't get around to using them. I have decided I am a "stamping collector". You have the best videos. I am hard of hearing but I can hear you very clearly without having to use a headset. You are the best and I thank you for all the sharing of your talent. You are a very special woman.

@kathypridham44177 жыл бұрын
you don't have to own a laser printer, go to staples and use theirs. BW is all you need, put 2 or 4 images on a letter size sheet and copy it ,or print digitally (you will probably need a pdf file for their printers to work) . you can add the foil anytime and run it thru laminator and you never have to buy costly toner cartridges.

Love watching all your foiling videos. Really been helpful. I thought I might warn people to check to insure you can unscrew and open your laminator before attempting to skip a carrier. I have a now 25 year old Pro pouch laminator that I once inserted without thinking five 100 dollar bills to crisp up and iron. Bank didn't have 5 new ones for a Wedding gift from the company. Anyway long story short took me over 3 hours to find a long skinny philips screw driver to reach the screws to open it up and retrieve the money it ate. The fist two came out just like your demonstration today without a carrier. BUT it ate the next 3 and worse I had decided once through why not twice and it ate them too while I was waiting for the next three to come out. So not all laminators are safe without a carrier. Mind you I also found that the original carriers that are rather heavy cardstock with some kind of almost wax like coated interior works best with toner foiling lamination with this machine. My machine has a means to increase and decrease temperatures. I find the setting I use for most 5ml laminations is ideal for toner foiling. But I had trouble with three different carriers I made for foiling. First failure was a smooth thick laser paper which got all wavy as a carrier when heated. The next was plain paper and it did better but not great at foiling itself. Next was Minc's brand of acrylic like clear carrier sheets you can buy on Amazon in several sizes and packages. It just seemed to cause moisture to come out of the paper/cardstock being foiled? To be fair I was running a personal small area humidifier due to winter allergies at the time. So since then I cut off the humidifier for 2-3 days in advance of foiling projects with the laminator.. I haven't tried folding a piece of parchment paper but feel it might do better than anything else I made myself to try. I have seen over the years occasional moisture build up when laminating so I've learned to avoid humid days but NW MT in winter is usually the opposite thus the humidifier. But possible my paper supplies absorb more than I would have imagined or thought would happen. I'm still in learning curve mode. I loved all my projects with toner lamination I've done so far. I used a generic toner/textile foil from a bundle off Amazon their rainbow and results were very good. But I also ordered a dozen rolls of H&H sign companies textile foils which are great prices a 12" x 25 foot roll plain is under 8 dollars. Their 12" x 25 foot roll of prints or textures extra fancy is under 13 per roll. I bought 12 total rolls my first order and they sent free shipping. They do have a minimum free shipping break point but not clear it was applied to this foil. I don't believe I made that as they are a professional supply center not just for hobby and crafting supplies like many of us use mainly for our media and materials. But their tiny star textures are the bomb so wonderful. I did a whole toner sheet as an experiment. Half in H&H's blue flower and the other in light green stars and then used dies to cut out shapes and cards. I made two thank you cards from the blue. Paper was strong plastic like and cut beautifully through the Platinum 8.5 machine I choose to die cut with. I then made over 60 double sided round tags for a friend who makes sock gnomes in more than half a dozen designs on each side. I printed via toner laser printer and used the same foils for text and graphic side alike. They were really lovely. All my dies were thin or thinlit styled. Will be making three new tags for another friend who's into yarn work and loves Boston Bulldogs and have the graphics worked up so plan to make Solid PINK foiled Bostons/Frenchies and use several different shades of pink to find the right fit. I can leave text bar in white print below dog lay out with ladies name but in matching pink so the print will be in white if I use White cardstock. I tried so far in 65# and 85# super smooth white cardstock straight through pass on older Brother small laser printer bought just for this work primarily. And it so far is great. My head starts swimming with foiling projects and oh my keeping it all straight. I've got lots of sterlite drawers to keep all the different styles of foils organized and apart so not to mix it up. I've been enjoying the Go Press foiling too for my tiny note pad projects. That uses the foil shown here today. That foil does not work well with toner/lamination techniques. I think that's right. So far I have 4 different foils I'm playing with and numerous technques. Toner/textile/fabric foils, the Go Press and freestyle hot pen foils are the same as are these today on this video, Then I have Iron on fabric vinyl foils to die cut out and use for backs of faux leather earrings and finally adhesive vinyl foils that are for flat nonporous applications like travel mugs and ceramics with & without epoxy finishes. All foils can be used in other unique ways but not all foils work the same way across the board. Today I'm going to give this stamp with embossing ink & powders with lamination method a try. I found it fascinating to say the least. Also I'm making cheater cards to slip into the drawers with each type of foil to remind me what works and sometimes what doesn't too. There is so many ways to go. Stay safe everyone but have FUN.

I was able to stamp my image with versa mark, cover the image with clear embossing powder, place the foil over the image, and then running it through my laminator without first melting the embossing powder. I found my card stock would warp every time I heat set the embossing powder. But sending it through my laminator allowed the embossing powder to melt and cause the foil to stick at the same time. I had to make 50 invitations and this saved a LOT of time! I love this technique!

I have watched several of your videos on foiling and have wanted to give it a try for some time. I finally got out my laminator and got some foil and gave it a shot...loved it! I have a laser printer and it works amazingly well, as you have shown on your other videos. One thing I did, which also worked out well, and I wanted to pass along, is that I stamped my image in black, scanned and copied it on my laser printer. This way I was able to used some of my stamped images. I was able to print 4 of my images, or layouts (4.25 x 5.5) on an 8.5 x 11 sheet. I could print several sheets if I want and then trim them down and foil. It was so fast and easy! Thanks for another fun and fabulous technique, Jennifer!

Jennifer, I've been doing heat-embossed foiling slightly different. I stamp the image with VersaMark, add the fine embossing powder, cover it with the foil and send it through the laminator. The image doesn't "flatten out" if I don't melt the embossing powder first. And it saves a step in the process!

The tried it w/out moving the iron across it, just up and down to cover the image, Used silver foil and it worked!!! That's Jennifer for all your great videos you do for us!!!

Excellent video so helpful, I would like to just say I have seen a few laminaters break without using a carring sheet, but I all so see what you mean, the results are better with out. I just wondered if you try using a newspaper sheet ( not the reading ones) the white block ones as they are so fine yet able to carry the foil through, and maybe allow more heat to get to the card and foil. ... Just a thought. Thank you very much for your videos.😀🌲
