I’m having trouble having the first layer of glass adhere to the base carbon. I’ve done it twice and ended up having to remove and start again. End up with a Couple Spots as I sand that is not adhered to the base carbon does it look need to course sand it first? Top came out great.
@blueplanetsurf3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you should always sand and clean the area before laying down glass or carbon, it will not adhere well to a smooth surface.

Building a foil sup from a hard sup I purchased second hand very cheaply. I purchased your strong box but I am having trouble to decide on where to place the track box ( how far from the back). What I learned from your other video on foil placement is that you want the front wing to be roughly in the middle between your feet in your stance and also having the front wing be the center of the gravity when you lift it by the front wing. Since I do t have it installed yet I can’t do this trick but was thinking to balance the board on a 2x4 with the strong box, a plate and a mast on the board roughly where II want it and see if it will be where I usually place my feet. What are your thoughts on this? Since I can’t lift it by the foil before I install the track

You will find suggested box placement measurements on this page: www.blueplanetsurf.com/foil-strongbox.html
@blueplanetsurf2 жыл бұрын
Recommended box measurements from tail of board to back of Tuttle opening (as per gofoil.com/tuttle-box/): Board Length Distance from tail of board 3′ to 4’6″” 1′ to 6″ 4’6” to 4’11” 4” to 8” 5’0″ to 5’9 6” to 12” 5’10” to 6’6” 8” to 15” 6’7” to 7’4” 12” to 20” 7’5” to 8’6” 16” to 22” 8’7” to 9’6” 20” to 28”

I would stay within these measurements.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful. What kind of tape (the blue tape) and plastic you used to lay between the glass? And instead of using the special 66 - 100 trim, is there any alternative to drill open the box?
@blueplanetsurf3 жыл бұрын
No problem. The blue tape is 3M painter tape, slightly thicker plastic will be easier to smooth out but most anything will work. If you don’t want to buy the trim router bit you can also cut the openings with a razor blade after the resin gels but before the resin is completely cured and is still easy to cut.

Hello! Thanks for the great video! I saw a few videos about install box and why only people align the box by side and not align by “longitude” I mean, you only align the box in X and not in Y axis, because the angle or "rake" that the foil will do with your board is important, right?
@blueplanetsurf3 жыл бұрын
You will want to install the box level/ parallel to the rocker line of the board. If the board has too much or too little rocker, you can adjust the angle of the foil by adding a shim to the base.

Not if you are careful not to oversaturate the glass

Thanks for the awesome video! When you cut out the rectangle in the board you first drill holes for guides for the jigsaw. I assume you drill one on each corner. Depending on the size of the drill bit, it would leave a little extra space at the outermost portion of the drilled hole. Does the gorilla glue fill in that extra space? Can you pls comment on the placement of the holes, etc? Also, do you have a recommended brand of jigsaw?
@blueplanetsurf5 жыл бұрын
Draw the outline of the box, then drill the holes big enough for the blade so they are inside the lines, that way you can get square corners. Make sure the saw is long enough to cut through the other side and make sure to make a clean, 90 degree cut

What do you mean at 7:27 where you say you made little bumps in the deck?
@blueplanetsurf4 жыл бұрын
If the thickness of the board is less than 3 ¼” you have to make a raised bump over the Tuttle box if you want to have a full sized deep Tuttle mount.
@adjinwatson55574 жыл бұрын
How would one make this raised bump?

How do you deal with the little gap you get at the end between the carbon patch and the board? And in case of a biconcave shape? Thanks!
@blueplanetsurf5 жыл бұрын
You need a flat surface to mount a plate mount foil, so deep double concave shapes don’t work well. After glassing the bottom, you have to hot coat, sand and fair in the edge of the carbon to get a smooth transition. 🤙🏼
