My Biology teacher was horrendous to our class as well. I would read the chapter and the test questions would come from either other chapters in the book or the answers were in obscure areas like the photo description. And she punished the entire class because a few female classmates left inappropriate notes on the wall for the substitute teacher who took over for a few weeks while she was sick. The first day she came back was misery for all of us. The other science teachers weren't that great either. One literally told me I better enjoy being poor if I wanted to work in the sciences, so I changed my career choices only to learn years later that STEM jobs were in high demand and my career field was actually oversaturated.

First and foremost, high schools and colleges should be providing you with the knowledge and skills to be an informed and thoughtful citizen. Everyone outside of that are just people you met one time and didn't make that "friend" connection and likely never will. I sure am glad school reunions aren’t a thing here in Switzerland. Apart from a couple friends from much later studies, I’ve kept no contacts with anyone from my other schools and high schools. Going to one would feel to me like I’m gonna spend an evening pretending to be interested in the lives of a bunch of total strangers who’s lives I couldn’t care less about. And yet I don’t even consider myself as someone who would have reasons to be ashamed of who I’ve become. Totally agree about the prison trip down memory lane here. The only thing in a reunion that might bring me a little satisfaction would be if I saw an old bully had become a complete loser…but then I would feel ashamed of myself. So really nothing good I can imagine coming from such an event

We had a class reunion recently and it was quite interesting: Most of the women looked almost exactly like they did 15 years ago, some even prettier! Among the guys there were huge differences: Some still had babyfaces and some unfortunate souls looked like 50-year-olds, mainly because of the hair loss. The most shocking sight however was a guy who apparently never stopped the partying and boozing after his teenage years and looked and smelled like he lived in a crack house. Can't say I didn't feel a bit of Schadenfreude though. That guy was one of my biggest bullies back in school, so I guess karma is real sometimes.

Attended my class’s 40th this summer (only missed 2 over the years). We have a good time; the rivalries are settled for the most part, and now we’re just a bunch of people with shared experience getting together to catch up. In my work life, I’m one of the “senior” employees. Some days, I feel _antiquated._ So I appreciate being in a room full of geezers like myself. For a couple hours, everyone gets my references.

I left school 20 years ago, I have no idea how I would even fit in a school uniform. 😅 Then again, our school didn’t have a uniform. It was also a terrible place, with unmotivated teachers and students. I was told consistently I wouldn’t make anything of myself, I showed no interest other than trying to get as many hours of sleep in during class as I could. All those teacher were wrong, I made a life for myself they can only dream of. Now for any kid in school reading this, school isn’t bad, education is a good thing. I’ve come across multiple things in life I’ve had to re-educate myself on because I didn’t pay attention back then. But, schools fail to teach us how the system works, how money works. (Unless you have rich parents who sent you to an expensive business school, those kids are thought with a different mindset). Schools are designed to teach you some of the basics and become a cog in society, a sheep in the flock, teachers can’t help it, they are a product of that themselves. Pay attention in school, but find something you are truly passionate about, it can be anything and think about how that can work for you. Education will get you only so far, educating yourself will get you that extra mile that will make all the difference.
@tigretora1
@tigretora1 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. School does teach us how the system works. We are drones who go to school-prison so we can get a job-prison to make money for a warden who already has enough money but they are in competition with the other wardens for who dies with the most money. Granted, there are non-system exceptions, mostly by rebels who fought and continue to fight the system their whole lives. And outside of work can be good if you stay away from the system aka pop culture.

My high school permanently closed 16 years after I graduated. Six months before news of the closure was revealed, my school had a reunion to celebrate 40 years. I had no intention of going, but I’m still friends with one of my old teachers and she persuaded me to go. I’m glad I did because it was nice to make peace with some of my classmates and it was fun to give the cold shoulder to my old algebra teacher. There's this dream that probably every outcast in school has to come back one day as a rock star, a millionaire, a scientist, a famous author,... or at least happily married - just to rub it in their faces they were wrong about you. As long as I've got nothing to show for, I'm not going. I would be right back to being awkward and self-conscious, and I don't miss that feeling. When my English teacher told me I was "intelligent, but lazy", my entire class laughed at me - and not at the lazy part. A rather immature part of me has been hoping to prove I am in fact intelligent ever since, but how do you do that? You don't by coming to school reunions.

great sketch as usual! I like how the characters are developing, they are getting better! But if you want to make a sitcom, here is the perfect set up: A street in a small town in Ireland, with the Flanagans (Ann and Oisin) Living next door from Barry, the McCormicks across the street, the squatters lads in the apartment building, Grandma Gerharty living near her Dereks grandsons, in an assisted living facility with the other older characters (grandpas and grandpas from the future), with the hard lads in the back alleys, and the office people in a commercial building near by. Of course there has to be an art studio and acting school for La Bullshat and Richard Chandley III, and for the Snob to visit. Make them interact with each other at times, and you'll have a perfect sitcom!! You don't need TV! Do it here and we'll be glad to pay you what you need to run it! You want to keep your creative freedom!!

I went to one reunion and that was as a courtesy for a former classmate. It wasn't a bad reunion, it was fairly pleasant. I had poignant conversations with some classmates during the dinner part of the reunion. That was probably the best part since it was at a restaurant in my home town. There were some odd questions by one person I remember who made a comment about where I lived. They said," Oh, you didn't move far away." I was like, "Oh, was I supposed to?" Some classmates didn't talk to me at all and at the end of the dinner, there was a homecoming festival so I went there for a bit and hung out for a little while. It was relatively boring so that was where the reunion fizzled since everyone was just kind of doing their own thing. I was talking to the classmate I came to the reunion for and we were talking to this other classmate that was pretty stand-offish towards me. I headed out shortly after that. My observations were that a lot of the people who were at this reunion still thought it was high school. The next reunion I made it known that I was vacationing in Dallas so I couldn't make it and I've never even considered going to another one. Long story short. Save for a few people, these individuals are not my friends. If they wanted to reach out at some point, they would have. Facebook doesn't count which is why I'm not on it. The End.

I was definitely the shy, nerdy, boring one at school, but I didn't fare that bad in life and have become much more confident since then, so I didn't feel anxious about going. It was also interesting to see that the nicer people all came to the reunion and most of the bullies stayed away. The one bully that did left early. It was all so weird? Brillant - the Squatters trio, but in a parallel universe (Chris has gone cool)! Speaking of travel: It's time to pack your Taschen for Europe very soon! I hope youse are as excited as we are - and don't forget the Important Travel Documents you received in the post! They're full of valuable information *and* contain a QR code leading to that northern German nursery rhyme... (better than a dm on the bird site anyway)

Pissy Cliff 😂😂 It is funny how in reality some people get stuck with such nicknames the whole life 😅 And congratulations on expanding your tour on previously not visited countries! I would be curious to know how you lads feel playing the same show for more than a year - do you miss having some new sketches in the live show every year?

I once gave a fellow the Nickname Goodbye Horses. It was spot on, so it naturally stuck. I feel bad to this day, with just a tinge of pride.

I returned to my hometown after 40 years. I avoided anyone who may have known me at school. One day a complete stranger came up to me "Don't you recognise me?" I didn't. Then he told me his name. It took me all my strength not to say "Oh yes, I remember you. You were one of the little shits who made my life such a misery!!" You see this was in church and he is now a good Christian!! Beware of good Christians. Give me a bad one anytime!! Great sketch. 😊

I don't blame you for your reaction. So many of the girls who bullied me in high school and did all sorts of stereotypical non-Christian stuff are now snooty, judgemental Christian women who treat wait staff and other Sunday workers like garbage, complain about various groups of people who aren't like them, and act like they've never sinned in their lives while complaining about the youth of today 🙄.

Really enjoyed this squatters - think it's the funniest one so far! Foil and Hog's characters seem pretty set now and work very well. Foil's is a very funny foil-like character, a realist who does give much of a damn. A fantastic contrast to Hog's Suits - who was so convincingly Suits despite different clothes and non-comedy hair. A loser or nerd of the highest degree! The delivery of some of those lines was hilarious. The 'school grounds' bit especially. Them being friends from school does make sense. Losers who have stuck together... or got stuck together. Arms character... I still don't exactly know who he is or how he fits. But that's OK, there's still heaps of space to build on and fill in the blanks. Is he a loveable idiot, is he just really unaware, is he the foil that isn't quite foiling? Them all being school friends does tie in why he's also with these other guys... Though I like him being a little removed. Maybe he's going to their school reunion because he went to his own but no one remembered him or he was banned from going because of an 'incident' which stays ambiguous or paints his character a certain way. This was definitely my favourite squatters sketch and I laughed a lot. But I want to be able to quiz Chris about - his hobbies, his childhood, his family, embarrassing incidents - anything! I'd have no idea of the answers. Foil and Hog's character I could take a stab at some answers, but they could still say the opposite and it would be surprising and funny. I'm on board with Squatters - theres some really good stuff!

Squatters - useful device for variable storylines and very pertinent in this era of unaffordable housing. Definitely potential for a tv series in the middleground with Shameless, between The Young Ones and Friends.

Yep just about the same here. I graduated in 61 and most of the kids in that class are now dead. I still live in the area. One was riding his Harley and fell when he hit something and the tractor behind him ran over him. Another bully caught glioblastoma in his 40's couldn't happen to a nicer guy, that sorta thing. The valedictorian turned into an addict. I recognized the name but not the pic I would not have recognized her she was gorgeous in school who woulda thunk it?
