It was perfect for the resourceful housewife (definitely, _wife_ ), with chapters like 'invalid cooking' and so on, but it was definitely of another age. A pre~CJD age, for sure... Probably had a chapter called "Beef or Pork - which gelatin for pastry making..." Definitely your go~to if you're into foods like braun, drisheen, or calfsfoot jelly. I'm making myself queesy just thinking about it! Perhaps a sausage sandwich will settle my stomach...

@@korky0104 Oh God! My mother was always boiling the milk over, and of course our cooker was one of those ones where the rings were these spiral coils so the milk could get all down in the workings! 🫢 There's plenty things I've smelt since that are a lot worse, but burnt milk sure makes a stench you don't forget in a hurry. At least we didn't have one of those finicky gas cookers! (Though at least with gas you've _some_ chance of catching it. Milk is one of those treacherous substances that are like the theory of cosmic inflation... It waits for the very moment you take your eyes off it and expands to a gajillion times its original volume in the blink of an eye!) Soap making though! Wow! Could it _get_ more old school?! (Or more up~to~date, maybe, with the trend for these artisanal, 'hipster' soaps...) Shouldn't be surprised if that was the book Mrs. Beaton was using before she wrote her own! I wouldn't be that surprised if it told you how to slaughter, dress out and butcher the animal as well! Things really _were_ 'real' back in them days, though, wha'? Back around the time of the Millennium, I was living on this fairly obscure island on the West coast where there were people who, if they didn't do this themselves, they certainly would remember their parents going for supplies... flour, animal feed, etc. - on foot; they would wait for the low spring tide, wade out to this neighbouring island, hike across the bogs there to the far shore, wade from there to the mainland, and from there overland, 10 or 15 miles to the nearest village... And then, the same thing in reverse, with heavy sacks on their back. 2 day job, sleeping out in the elements. Ah Sure, we don't know were born! Ayup, grand stretch in the evenings... Ah yeah, that's that bug that's going around... 😉 Sorry, came over all "In me fadder's time -- " there! Maybe "Ireland's Own" could do something with it...

You know what's scary? Both Classics and Yoing Adult are 100% correct about the other.

Audiobooks are spineless...never thought about it that way. My absolute favorite joke from this sketch 😂😂
@iri028027 ай бұрын
This is amazing!!! Loved short story and young adult vs classics and no one daring to joke about the holy books And audio book being spineless is the best pun!
@davidwuhrer67047 ай бұрын
Not daring? I thought the joke was that nobody reads them, so nobody knows enough about them to make a joke.

This was brilliant! I wonder what would happen if Romantic literature crashed the party. Children's picture book shows up torn apart and looking for help, YA doesn't want to be seen with it, and Crime tries to figure out who broke it.

I feel like this was made just for me, cheers lads! Historical fiction obviously got their dates wrong and missed the party!

Eeeek! New party sketch! And a particularly good one at that! I don't even know which one of the fabulous characters and jokes to comment on - too many... I'll just say I'm really looking forward to seeing Skittish this summer! Hope you enjoyed the last stops on the Hogwash tour.

Have you ever wondered what books do when you're not at home? FAH have the answer as they're back with the 16th installment of your beloved Party series. If you loved "When Furniture Throws a Party" and "When Fruit Throws a Party", this one's the right book for you. As always FAH manage to combine witty observational humour with just the right amount of silliness to create a real page turner. 5/5 🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖
